omen 15 gaming laptop
The OMEN 15 is a classic in the world of gaming laptops. While HP has since updated its naming scheme (moving to the OMEN 16 and OMEN 17), the OMEN 15 was a hugely popular line known for balancing performance, build quality, and price. Here is a comprehensive breakdown of what you need to know about the OMEN 15, depending on whether you are looking to buy a used one, a new old-stock model, or just curious about its legacy. Generations & Key Specs The "OMEN 15" name covers several generations (20192021). The most notable and widely praised were the Intel 10th Gen (2020) and AMD Ryzen 4000/5000 (2020-2021) models. Component Typical Specs (2020-2021 "best" versions) : : CPU Intel Core i7-10750H / i7-10870H OR AMD Ryzen 7 5800H (faster) GPU NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti / RTX 2060 / RTX 3060 / RTX 3070 (Max-Q or full wattage) RAM 8GB / 16GB DDR4-3200 (often dual-channel, upgradeable) Storage 256GB / 512GB / 1TB NVMe SSD (usually has a second M.2 slot) Display 15.6" 144Hz or 165Hz IPS (300 nits, 100% sRGB on top models) Battery 70.9 Wh (decent runtime for a gaming laptop) The Good (Why people loved it) Build Quality: At the time, it was a significant step up from previous OMENs. The chassis was made of a magnesium/aluminum alloy, giving it a solid, premium feel. The "dark ash" color was sleek and less "gamer-y" than many competitors. Thermal Performance: The OMEN 15 had an excellent thermal design. - Pentagon & Hexagon vents: Stylish and functional. - 3-sided exhaust: Air vents on the back and sides. - Good fan curve: It kept the laptop cool under load without being too loud compared to rivals (e.g., the ASUS Zephyrus G15). Upgradeability: Super easy to access internals. A single bottom panel reveals two RAM slots (up to 32GB) and two M.2 SSD slots. Performance: The AMD versions (Ryzen 7 5800H + RTX 3060) were absolute beasts for the price, punching well above their weight class. Keyboard & Ports: It had a very good full-size keyboard with a numpad. Port selection was great for its time (including Mini DisplayPort, HDMI 2.1 on newer models, USB-C, and USB-A ports). The Bad & Ugly (Potential issues to watch for) Display Hinge Issues: This is the #1 problem you'll find in user reviews. - The hinges are known to fail over time. They can become stiff, causing the plastic mounting points in the lid to crack. - Fix: If you buy one, check the hinge for any cracking or stiffness. Opening it should be smooth. Realtek Wi-Fi Card: Many shipped with a Realtek Wi-Fi 6 card, which was notoriously buggy (disconnections, slow speeds). - Fix: Swapping it out for an Intel AX200/AX210 is a standard, cheap, and easy upgrade (15-20). Plastic Display Lid: While the bottom and palm rest are metal, the lid (screen cover) is glossy plastic. It attracts fingerprints and can flex a bit. Fan Noise on "Performance" Mode: While good for thermals, the fans get quite loud under heavy gaming load (this is normal for the size). Cannon Lake (Intel) Battery Life: The Intel versions (10th Gen) had very poor battery life (2-3 hours). The AMD versions (4-5 hours) were significantly better. Is it worth buying in 2024/2025? Yes, but with caveats. Good Deal: If you find a used AMD Ryzen 7 + RTX 3060 model for 500-650, it's a solid value. It will still play modern games at 1080p High/Ultra settings. Price to Avoid: Do not pay over 700+ for an OMEN 15. For that money, you can get a modern 40-series laptop. Avoid Intel: Skip the Intel 10th Gen models (i7-10750H) unless they are very cheap (350-400). The battery life and CPU performance are outdated. The Hinge Check: This is the dealbreaker. If the hinges feel stiff, make a clicking noise, or the plastic around them is cracked, walk away (or factor in a 50-100 repair cost). Common Accessories / Upgrades Wi-Fi Card Swap: Replace the Realtek with an Intel AX210. (Takes 5 minutes). SSD: Add a second NVMe SSD for game storage. RAM: Upgrade to 32GB if you do heavy multitasking or creative work. Thermal Paste: After 3-4 years, repasting the CPU/GPU with high-quality paste (e.g., Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut) can lower temps by 5-10C. Verdict The OMEN 15 is a well-designed, powerful laptop that has aged reasonably well, especially the AMD versions. Its main legacy is being a great "all-rounder" that didn't look like a spaceship. Just beware of the hinges and the Realtek Wi-Fi card. If those are okay, it's a fantastic budget gaming machine for 1080p gaming today.

Venture into the depths of Azeroth itself in this groundbreaking expansion. Face new threats emerging from the planet's core, explore mysterious underground realms, and uncover secrets that will reshape your understanding of the Warcraft universe forever.
The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
