Fantasy MMORPG PvE Raids Guilds

It sounds like you're dealing with an old gaming laptop. Thats a tricky spotthese machines pack decent dedicated graphics and RAM for their era, but usually suffer from terrible thermals, outdated CPUs, and heavy chassis. Heres a breakdown of what to expect, common issues, and how to breathe new life into it (or whether to give up). The "Old Gaming Laptop" Profile Typical Era: Late 2000s to 2018. Common GPUs: Nvidia GTX 860M, 960M, 1050, 1060; or AMD Radeon HD 7970M, RX 460. Common CPUs: Intel 4th-7th Gen (i7-4700HQ, i7-6700HQ), or AMD FX series. The Big Problem: Thermal Paste. It has turned into dried concrete. This is the #1 killer of performance in old gaming laptops. The Good, The Bad, The Ugly The Good (Reasons to keep it): It still has a real GPU. It will run eSports titles (League, Valorant, CS2, Dota 2) easily. It can be a great emulation machine for PS2, GameCube, Wii, and older. It can serve as a home server (Plex, NAS, Minecraft server) because the screen is attached. The 1080p screen was luxury back then, but still okay for media. The Bad (Why it feels slow): Thermal Throttling: The CPU and GPU overheat instantly. The laptop clocks down to 0.8 GHz, making it feel like a 2008 netbook. Hard Drive (HDD): If it still has a spinning hard drive, it will be your biggest bottleneck. Windows 10/11 loads for 5 minutes. Battery: Dead. Lasts 20 minutes unplugged if you're lucky. It's now a desktop replacement. Single-channel RAM: Many older gaming laptops only had one stick of RAM, crippling CPU performance by 20-40%. The Cheap Revival Checklist (Try this first) If you want to use it for light gaming or a secondary machine, do this in order: Clean it (Literally). Buy a 10 can of compressed air. Open the bottom panel. Blow out the fan and heatsink fins. It's probably a carpet of dust. Repaste the CPU/GPU. Buy a 8 tube of Arctic MX-4 or Noctua NT-H1. Warning: This requires taking the heatsink off. Watch a specific teardown video for your exact model (e.g., "Dell Inspiron 7559 repaste"). If you break the mounting clips, the laptop is done. Replace the hard drive with an SSD. Buy a 20 SATA SSD (e.g., 240GB or 500GB). This single change makes the laptop feel 5 years younger. Add RAM (if possible). If you only have 8GB, try to find a matching 8GB stick for 15 used on eBay to make 16GB dual-channel. Modern Gaming Reality Check Can you play new games on it? Game Verdict : : Helldivers 2 No. Unplayable. CPU cannot handle it. Cyberpunk 2077 Pray for 30fps. Lowest settings, 720p. GPU will scream. Elden Ring Maybe 30fps if it has a GTX 1060 or equivalent. Fortnite / Valorant YES. 100+ fps on medium settings. Minecraft (Java) YES. But will melt the keyboard if not repasted. Worst-Case Scenarios (Why it might be a paperweight) GPU Failure (BGA Solder Crack): Very common in old gaming laptops (especially Nvidia 8xxM/9xxM series). Screen goes black or shows artifacts. This is terminal. A cheap heat gun repair might fix it for 3 months. Hinge Failure: The plastic around the hinges breaks. The screen wobbles. Requires a 50 used LCD lid assembly. Power Jack Looseness: The charging port breaks loose from the motherboard. Almost impossible to solder well without a rework station. Final Verdict Keep it if: It runs games from 2015-2018 well (Witcher 3, GTA V, Overwatch) and you don't care about battery life. Sell it for parts if: The GPU is dead, the hinges are broken, or it's a first-gen quad-core (i7-720QM / AMD Phenom II) those are e-waste. Give it away as a "Minecraft Machine" for a kid if it works but is too slow for you. Your next step: Check the exact model number (on the bottom sticker). Google: "[Model Name] undervolt + repaste guide" If you do just the SSD + Repaste, you'll be shocked at how much life it has left for older titles.

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
