new world 1500s
The 1500s (16th century) was a transformative period in world history, marked by exploration, colonization, cultural exchanges, and significant political and religious changes. Heres an overview of key developments during this era: Age of Exploration & Colonization European Expansion: Spain, Portugal, England, France, and the Netherlands led voyages to the Americas, Africa, and Asia. - 14921500s: Christopher Columbus's voyages (1492) opened the Americas to European colonization. - 15191522: Ferdinand Magellans expedition circumnavigated the globe (completed by Juan Sebastián Elcano after Magellan's death). - Conquistadors: Hernán Cortés conquered the Aztec Empire (15191521), and Francisco Pizarro defeated the Inca Empire (15321533). Treaty of Tordesillas (1494): Divided the New World between Spain and Portugal. Transatlantic Slave Trade: Began in the early 1500s, with enslaved Africans transported to the Americas. Major Empires & Civilizations Americas: - Aztec Empire (Mexico): Fell to Spain (1521). - Inca Empire (Peru): Conquered by Spain (1530s). - Maya Civilization: Still present in parts of Central America but in decline. Africa: - Songhai Empire (West Africa): Peak under Askia the Great (14931528), later fell to Morocco (1591). - Kongo Kingdom: Engaged with Portuguese traders and missionaries. Asia: - Ming Dynasty (China): Flourishing but increasingly isolated. - Mughal Empire (India): Founded by Babur (1526), precursor to later Mughal dominance. - Ottoman Empire: Expanded under Suleiman the Magnificent (15201566), controlling much of the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Europe. Religious & Intellectual Changes Protestant Reformation (1517): Martin Luthers 95 Theses challenged the Catholic Church, leading to religious wars and new denominations (Lutheranism, Calvinism). Catholic Counter-Reformation: The Church responded with reforms (Council of Trent, 15451563) and the Jesuits (founded 1540). Scientific Advancements: Copernicus proposed a heliocentric model (1543), challenging medieval cosmology. Economic & Social Shifts Columbian Exchange: Transfer of goods, animals, and diseases between the Old and New Worlds (e.g., potatoes, maize, horses, smallpox). Rise of Mercantilism: European powers sought wealth through colonies and trade monopolies. Decline of Feudalism: Rise of centralized nation-states (e.g., Spain, France, England). Key Conflicts Italian Wars (14941559): France vs. Habsburgs (Spain & Holy Roman Empire) over control of Italy. Ottoman-Habsburg Wars: Suleimans forces besieged Vienna (1529). Anglo-Spanish Tensions: England (under Elizabeth I) challenged Spanish dominance (e.g., Sir Francis Drakes raids). Cultural Developments Renaissance spread across Europe (art, literature, science). Printing Press (Gutenberg, 1440s): Enabled mass communication, aiding the Reformation and education. Legacy of the 1500s The century laid the foundation for European global dominance. Indigenous civilizations in the Americas faced devastation from disease and conquest. The slave trade expanded, shaping future racial and economic systems. Religious divisions in Europe led to centuries of conflict. Would you like more details on any specific region or event?

The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
