new world 1492
The year 1492 is a pivotal date in world history, marking the beginning of a transformative era known as the "New World" encounters. Heres a breakdown of its significance: Key Events in 1492: Christopher Columbus First Voyage (AugustOctober 1492) - Sponsored by Spains Catholic Monarchs (Ferdinand & Isabella), Columbus set sail with three ships (Niña, Pinta, Santa María) to find a western route to Asia. - On October 12, 1492, he landed in the Bahamas (likely San Salvador/Guanahani), mistakenly believing he had reached the East Indies. - This voyage initiated sustained European contact with the Americas, leading to the Columbian Exchange (transfer of plants, animals, diseases, and cultures between hemispheres). Fall of Granada (January 1492) - The Reconquista (Christian reconquest of Spain) ended when the last Muslim stronghold, Granada, surrendered to Spain. - This victory allowed Spain to focus on overseas exploration. Alhambra Decree (March 1492) - Spain expelled its Jewish population (Sephardic Jews) unless they converted to Christianity, reflecting religious intolerance but also diverting resources toward exploration. Global Context - While Columbus "discovered" the Americas for Europe, the Indigenous peoples (e.g., Taino, Aztecs, Incas) had thriving civilizations. - Other explorers (like Leif Erikson) had reached the Americas earlier, but Columbus voyages triggered lasting colonization. Impact of 1492: Colonization: Spain and later European powers (Portugal, England, France) colonized the Americas. Columbian Exchange: Crops (potatoes, maize), animals (horses), and diseases (smallpox) reshaped societies. Transatlantic Slave Trade: European exploitation led to the forced migration of Africans. Decline of Indigenous Populations: Diseases and conquest caused catastrophic population losses. Debates & Legacy "Discovery" vs. Invasion: Many view 1492 as the start of Indigenous oppression. Cultural Exchange: Despite violence, the encounter created new hybrid cultures (e.g., Latin America). Would you like details on a specific aspect (e.g., Columbus voyages, Indigenous perspectives, long-term effects)?

The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
