Fantasy MMORPG PvE Raids Guilds

The early 2000s were a golden era for MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games), marking the rise of persistent online worlds that captivated millions. Here are some of the most influential and beloved MMORPGs from that time: Iconic Early 2000s MMORPGs: EverQuest (1999, but dominated early 2000s) - Often called the "grandfather of MMORPGs," it set the standard for open-world exploration, raids, and grinding. - Known for its punishing difficulty and deep social gameplay. Dark Age of Camelot (2001) - Introduced Realm vs. Realm (RvR) PvP, where three factions battled for control. - Unique class designs and a strong PvE/PvP balance. RuneScape (2001, browser-based) - One of the first free-to-play MMORPGs, accessible via Java in web browsers. - Simple but addictive skill-based progression. Anarchy Online (2001) - One of the first sci-fi MMORPGs, featuring futuristic classes and cyberpunk themes. - Introduced dynamic missions and a deep crafting system. Final Fantasy XI (2002 in Japan, 2003 in NA/EU) - The first MMO in the FF series, blending traditional JRPG elements with online play. - Required grouping for most content, fostering strong communities. Star Wars Galaxies (2003) - A sandbox MMO with player-driven economies and professions (like Jedi, Bounty Hunter, Dancer). - Controversial Combat Upgrade (CU) and New Game Enhancements (NGE) later changed core gameplay. Lineage II (2003 in Korea, 2004 in NA/EU) - Focused on large-scale PvP and castle sieges. - Beautiful (for its time) 3D graphics and open-world conflicts. World of Warcraft (2004) - Revolutionized the genre with accessibility, polished gameplay, and a massive world. - Became the most successful MMORPG of all time, defining the modern MMO. Key Features of Early 2000s MMORPGs: Group dependency (few solo-friendly games). Grindy progression (long leveling times, rare loot drops). Emergent social dynamics (guilds, raids, player rivalries). Less hand-holding (no quest markers, minimal tutorials). Permadeath or harsh penalties (in some games like Ultima Online). Legacy: Many of these games shaped modern MMOs, though some have shut down or evolved (WoW Classic, RuneScape Old School). If you're nostalgic for this era, private servers for Star Wars Galaxies (SWGEmu) and EverQuest (Project 1999) keep the old-school spirit alive. Which one was your favorite? Or are you looking for recommendations to try today?

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
