Fantasy MMORPG PvE Raids Guilds

Epic Games is a private company, so it doesn't release detailed, audited financial reports like a public company. However, based on publicly available information, court documents (primarily from the 2021 Apple vs. Epic trial), and industry estimates, we can piece together a strong picture of their yearly revenue. The key takeaway is that Epic's revenue is massive and dominated by its flagship game, Fortnite. Heres a breakdown of Epic Games' estimated yearly revenue, with important context: Primary Revenue Streams: Fortnite: The vast majority of revenue comes from in-game purchases (V-Bucks for skins, emotes, Battle Passes). This is the engine of the company. The Epic Games Store: Revenue from game sales (Epic takes a 12% cut, compared to Steam's 30%). They also spend heavily on "exclusives" and free games to attract users. Unreal Engine: Revenue from licensing the engine to other developers (5% royalty on gross revenue after a game earns over 1 million). This is a significant and growing segment. Other Games: Revenue from titles like Rocket League (which they own), Fall Guys, and older franchises. Entertainment & Other: Licensing Unreal Engine for film, TV (e.g., The Mandalorian), and live events. Year-by-Year Estimates & Data: 2023 (Estimate): Approximately 4.5 - 5.5 billion in gross revenue. Context: 2023 was a record year for Fortnite, driven by new modes like "Fortnite OG" (which brought back the original map) and major collaborations. Epic Games Store also continued to grow. 2022 (Estimate): Approximately 3.5 - 4.2 billion. Context: A relatively stable year for Fortnite. The Epic Games Store saw increased spending on exclusives and free game giveaways (over 700 million free games claimed by users lifetime as of early 2023). 2021 (Court-Disclosed Figure): 5.1 billion in gross revenue. This is the last firm number we have from official documents. It was a peak year, heavily driven by the pandemic-fueled gaming boom. 2020 (Court-Disclosed Figure): 5.4 billion in gross revenue. This was Epic's peak revenue year according to trial evidence, again due to the pandemic and massive Fortnite engagement. 2019 (Court-Disclosed Figure): 4.2 billion in gross revenue. Fortnite was still in its dominant cultural phase, and the Epic Games Store launched in late 2018, starting to contribute. 2018 (Court-Disclosed Figure): 5.6 billion in Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA). Important: This is not revenue, but a measure of profitability. It indicates the company was generating enormous cash flow at its peak. Crucial Financial Context: High Revenue, But Also High Costs/Losses: Epic is known for aggressive reinvestment. They operate the Epic Games Store at a significant loss (estimated 300 million per year in 2021) to gain market share through exclusives and free games. They also fund massive Fortnite tournaments and content creation. Profit vs. Revenue: While revenue is in the billions, net profit is much lower and may even be negative in some years due to these strategic investments. In 2021, Epic reported a net loss of about 139 million. Fortnite's Dominance: Historically, Fortnite has accounted for over 80-90% of Epic's total revenue. The company's financial health is still tightly linked to this one title, though they are actively diversifying with the Store and Unreal Engine. Tencent's Stake: Chinese technology giant Tencent owns about 40% of Epic Games, which provides a stable financial backbone. Summary Table (Estimates & Known Figures): Year Estimated Gross Revenue Key Notes : : : 2023 4.5 - 5.5B Record engagement with "Fortnite OG." 2022 3.5 - 4.2B Stabilization post-pandemic peak. 2021 5.1B Disclosed in court. Net loss of 139M. 2020 5.4B Disclosed in court. Peak revenue year. 2019 4.2B Disclosed in court. 2018 N/A (EBITDA: 5.6B) Peak profitability period for Fortnite. In conclusion, Epic Games generates multi-billions in revenue yearly, primarily from Fortnite. While the exact figures are estimates post-2021, the company is a financial powerhouse, but one that strategically spends its money to fuel long-term growth in the gaming ecosystem rather than maximizing short-term profit.

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
