Fantasy MMORPG PvE Raids Guilds

Epic Games is a private company, so it doesn't publicly disclose detailed, audited annual financial statements like a publicly traded company would. However, we can piece together a clear picture from public statements, court documents (especially from the Apple vs. Epic trial), and industry estimates. Heres a breakdown of what we know about Epic Games' profit and revenue: Key Revenue Sources: Fortnite: The flagship game is a colossal revenue driver through its Battle Pass and in-game cosmetic item shop (V-Bucks). The Epic Games Store: Revenue from game sales (taking a 12% cut, compared to Steam's 30%). Epic also spends heavily on "free games" and exclusivity deals to attract users. Unreal Engine: Licensing revenue from developers and a 5% royalty on gross revenue after a game crosses 1 million, thanks to its new licensing terms (for non-game uses as well, like film and automotive). Other Games: Revenue from titles like Rocket League (which it owns), Fall Guys, and publishing deals. The Big Picture: Revenue vs. Profit Crucially, Epic has been strategically reinvesting almost all of its revenue back into growth, especially into the Epic Games Store and metaverse ambitions. This means their revenue is very high, but their net profit is often low or even negative in recent years. Here are the most reliable figures from recent years: 2022 & 2023: Epic's CEO, Tim Sweeney, stated the company is not currently profitable due to massive investments. He said in 2023, "We're profitable except for the fact that we invest in the future... we're spending a lot of money on the Epic Games Store and metaverse development." 2021: A year of peak Fortnite growth. Epic reported total revenue of approximately 5.8 billion. However, after its investments, its net profit was around 1.3 billion. 2020: Revenue was estimated to be over 5.1 billion. 2019: Revenue was estimated at 4.2 billion. 2018: The year Fortnite exploded. Epic's profit was 3 billion on revenue of 5.6 billion, an exceptionally profitable year before heavy reinvestment began. Estimated Annual Figures (Recent Years): Year Estimated Revenue Estimated Net Profit / (Loss) Key Notes : : : : 2023 5.5 - 6.0 Billion (Loss) Heavy investment in EGS, Fortnite Chapter 5, and legal costs. 2022 5.0 - 5.5 Billion Near Break-even or Small Loss Continued major spending on user acquisition for the store. 2021 5.8 Billion (disclosed) 1.3 Billion Profit (disclosed) Peak Fortnite pandemic-era engagement. 2020 5.1 Billion Profitable, but reinvesting. Strong growth year. 2019 4.2 Billion Profitable, but reinvesting. Beginning of major store investments. 2018 5.6 Billion (disclosed) 3.0 Billion Profit (disclosed) The height of Fortnite mania with lower relative costs. Important Context: Massive Investment Phase: Epic is owned 40% by Tencent and has significant backing from Sony and other investors. This allows it to operate with a long-term view, sacrificing short-term profit to build what Tim Sweeney calls the "metaverse." Epic Games Store is a Cost Center: The store is a major financial drain. Epic has committed to giving away over 2.5 billion in free games by the end of 2024 and pays for exclusive titles. They have stated they don't expect the store to be profitable until at least 2027. Legal Battles: The costly legal fight with Apple and Google also impacts finances. In summary: Epic Games generates enormous revenue (likely between 5-6 billion annually), but it deliberately plows that money back into aggressive expansion and user acquisition. Therefore, its yearly net profit is currently minimal or negative, by strategic design.

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
