wizard101 level 78 pets
Excellent question! Level 78 is a pivotal point in Wizard101, marking the end of the Zafaria/Avalon era and the transition into the powerful Azteca/Aquila content. Your pet choice here can significantly boost your effectiveness. Heres a breakdown of the best pets for a Level 78 wizard, categorized by role and school. The "Meta" & Most Sought-After Pets These pets offer powerful cards or critical stat boosts that are relevant for the upcoming challenges. Gloomy Eye (Death School) / Kookaburra (Storm School) / Arsonal Firecat (Fire School) / Frosty Eye (Ice School) / etc. Why: These "Eye" pets and their equivalents provide a 7-Pip AoE (Area of Effect) spell for their respective school. At level 78, your main AoE is still 4 pips (or 7 with a Shadow Shrike), so having a reliable, lower-pip AoE on your pet is a massive quality-of-life and strategic improvement for farming and questing. Best For: Any wizard who wants faster battles. Arguably the #1 questing pet at this level. Damage Pets (e.g., Clamoring Ghulture, Dark Hound, Sun Serpent) Why: Pets with talents that give School-Dealer (+6% Damage) and School-Giver (+4% Damage) are always in demand. Stacking these with a Mighty or Thinkin' Cap jewel can push your damage stat very high, making you hit harder with every spell. Best For: Every school wants a solid damage pet. This is a foundational build. Crit & Damage Hybrid Pets Why: At level 78, Critical Rating starts becoming very important. Pets with talents like Critical Striker (universal critical) or School-Assailant (school-specific critical) combined with damage talents make you a powerhouse. Example Pets: Ornery Kookaburra (Storm), Fierce Hound (Balance), Icedactyl (Ice). Healer/Support Pets Why: For soloing tough bosses or playing a support role in dungeons (like Waterworks or Tower of the Helephant). Talents like Healer, Medic, Spell-Proof, and Spell-Defying are key. Example Pets: Life Dryad, Greenwarden's Oasis (grants a Leafstorm AoE), or any pet with a "May Cast" heal like Unicorn or Sprite. Utility & Card Pets Enchanted Armament: Grants Sharpened Blade item cards. Stacking two of these (from pet and TC) is crucial for max blade efficiency in team play. A staple for support roles. Pets with specific utility spells: Like the Rain Core (Storm Shield), Blaze Fox (Elemental Blade), or Life Bat (Guiding Light). Best Pet by School (Level 78 Focus) Fire: Arsonal Firecat (for Fire Dragon AoE) or a Sun Serpent with Damage/Critical talents. Ice: Frosty Eye (for Frost Giant AoE) or an Icedactyl for a mix of damage, critical, and an Iceblade card. Storm: Kookaburra (for Tempest AoE) is the ultimate questing tool. Ornery Kookaburra is also fantastic. Myth: Mythdactyl (for damage/critical and a Mythblade) or a Myth Golem with a good talent pool. Life: Life Dryad (for heals and support) or Gloomy Eye (yes, Death AoE) for surprisingly effective offensive questing. Death: Gloomy Eye (for Scarecrow AoE) is non-negotiable for efficient questing. A Dark Hound or Ghulture is great for pure damage. Balance: Fierce Hound or Balance Armament (Enchanted Armament). Balance lacks a hard-hitting early AoE, so a pet with damage/critical talents or the Sharpened Blade cards is ideal. Key Talents to Look For (The "Ideal" Pool) Aim for a pet with 5 of these, depending on your goal: For Offense (Questing): School-Dealer (+6% Damage) School-Giver (+4% Damage) Pain-Giver (+3% Universal Damage) School-Assailant / Critical Striker (Critical Rating) Mighty (Strength Booster - increases % of other talents) OR a Spell-Proof for some survivability. For Defense (Soloing/Dungeons): Spell-Proof (+11% Universal Resist) Spell-Defying (+5% Universal Resist) Healer (May Cast Heal) Medic (May Cast Legion Shield) Pain-Giver or a Damage Talent What Should YOU Do at Level 78? Assess Your Current Pet: Do you have a pet with good talents already? If it's serving you well, keep using it. Identify Your Need: Are you dying too often? Build a resist/heal pet. Are battles too slow? Aim for a Gloomy Eye/Kookaburra-type pet or a triple-double (3 damage, 2 resist) pet. Start Hatching at the Pet Pavilion: Use the Kiosk to find the pets listed above. Look at their "Pedigree" to see common talent pools. Hatching can be expensive in gold, so farm Halfang Bristlecrown in Vestrilund (Wintertusk) for quick gold. Don't Neglect Pet Stats: For maximum effect from %-based talents, aim for a pet with max (or near-max) Strength, Will, and Power. Final Pro-Tip: The Waterworks gear (level 60) and House of Scales/Tower of the Helephant gear (level 70) are still great at 78. Your pet is the perfect piece to complement that gear set, filling gaps in your damage, resist, or critical. Good luck with your hatches

The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
