The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in the vast and lore-rich world of The Elder Scrolls. The game takes place during the Second Era, roughly a thousand years before the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and 800 years before The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Main Storyline: The Three Banners War & The Planemeld The central conflict revolves around the Three Banners War, a massive struggle for control over the continent of Tamriel following the collapse of the Second Empire of the Reman Dynasty. Three major alliances fight for supremacy: The Daggerfall Covenant (Bretons, Redguards, Orcs) Seeks to restore the Empire under a new dynasty. The Ebonheart Pact (Nords, Dark Elves, Argonians) A fragile alliance formed to resist foreign domination. The Aldmeri Dominion (High Elves, Wood Elves, Khajiit) Wants to establish elven rule to "save" Tamriel from human recklessness. Meanwhile, the Daedric Prince Molag Bal seeks to merge Tamriel with his realm of Coldharbour in an event called the Planemeld. He has stolen the souls of countless mortals, including the player character, who begins the game as a soulless prisoner in Coldharbour. The Vestige (Player Character) The player, known as the Vestige, escapes Coldharbour with the help of the Prophet (later revealed to be Varen Aquilarios, the deposed Emperor). The Vestige must: Recover their soul (or find a way to live without it). Unite forces against Molag Bal. Stop the Planemeld by recovering the Amulet of Kings and reigniting the Dragonfires (a magical barrier that keeps Daedric Princes from invading Tamriel). Major Expansions & Story Arcs Since its launch, ESO has expanded with multiple DLCs and Chapters, each adding new regions and storylines: Morrowind (2017) Introduces Vvardenfell and the reincarnated god-hero Vivec, who faces a threat from the Daedric Prince Clavicus Vile. Summerset (2018) The Psijic Order recruits the player to stop the Daedric Prince Nocturnal from unmaking reality. Elsweyr (2019) Features the return of dragons (led by Kaalgrontiid) and the Khajiit homeland. Greymoor (2020) A dark vampire conspiracy in Western Skyrim tied to the Gray Host. Blackwood (2021) Introduces the Daedric Prince Mehrunes Dagon and the Deadlands. High Isle (2022) A political intrigue story in the Systres Archipelago. Necrom (2023) Explores Apocrypha (Hermaeus Moras realm) and Telvanni Peninsula. Ongoing Narrative & Future ESOs story is continuously updated, with new chapters and DLCs expanding the world. The game weaves together deep lore, recurring characters (like Lyris Titanborn, Abnur Tharn, and Razum-dar), and player choices that shape the world. The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
