unreal engine 5 world of warcraft
Creating a World of Warcraft (WoW)-style game in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) would be an ambitious project, but UE5s powerful tools make it possible. Below is a breakdown of how you could approach this: Key Features to Replicate from WoW in UE5 Open World with Stylized Art WoWs iconic cartoony, exaggerated art style. MMO Mechanics Multiplayer networking, quests, dungeons, raids. Character Classes & Abilities RPG progression with skills and talents. NPCs & AI Enemy behavior, quest-givers, and faction systems. UI & HUD WoW-like action bars, minimap, and quest tracking. Tools & Systems in UE5 for a WoW-like Game A. World Building Nanite For highly detailed environments (though WoW uses low-poly art). Lumen Dynamic global illumination for vibrant lighting. World Partition Seamless open-world streaming (like WoWs zones). Procedural Content Generation (PCG) For forests, caves, and terrain. B. Stylized Graphics (WoWs Art Style) Cel Shading & Custom Shaders Mimic WoWs toon-like visuals. Exaggerated Proportions Use UE5s modeling tools (Blender/Maya integration). Particle Effects Niagara for spell effects (fireballs, healing spells). C. Multiplayer (MMO Framework) UE5s Networking Use Replication for player synchronization. Dedicated Servers Required for large-scale MMO play. Epic Online Services (EOS) For account management & matchmaking. D. RPG Systems Gameplay Ability System (GAS) For WoW-like skills & cooldowns. Data Tables & Blueprints Store quests, items, and NPC dialogues. AI & Behavior Trees For enemy combat (aggro, patrols, boss mechanics). E. UI & UX UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics) Recreate WoWs action bars and quest logs. Modular Widgets Allow for customizable UI (like WoW addons). Challenges Massive Multiplayer Scaling WoW supports thousands of players; UE5 requires optimization. Persistent World Needs server infrastructure (AWS, Google Cloud, etc.). Anti-Cheat & Security Critical for an online game. Getting Started Learn UE5s Multiplayer Basics (Replication, RPCs). Experiment with Stylized Art (Cel shading, hand-painted textures). Prototype a Small Zone Like a starting area (e.g., Elwynn Forest). Use Marketplace Assets (Stylized character packs, MMO kits). Existing UE5 MMO Projects "Ashes of Creation" A UE4/UE5-based MMO in development. "Tarisland" A WoW-like UE5 MMO (Tencent). "Corepunk" Another UE4/UE5 isometric MMO. Final Thoughts UE5 is capable of making a WoW-like MMO, but it requires expertise in networking, AI, and large-scale world design. If you're a solo developer, consider starting with a smaller-scale RPG before attempting an MMO. Would you like recommendations for specific tutorials or asset packs?

The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
