Ultima VIII: Pagan is the eighth main installment in the Ultima series, developed by Origin Systems and released in 1994. It is a controversial entry due to its significant departure from previous games in terms of gameplay, tone, and narrative. Key Features: Setting: The game takes place on Pagan, a dark, elemental world ruled by four evil Titans (Earth, Air, Fire, Water). Unlike previous Ultima games, it lacks the traditional Virtues and Britannia. Protagonist: The Avatar is forcibly transported to Pagan by the Guardian (the series' main antagonist) and must escape. Gameplay Changes: - Shifted from open-world exploration to a more linear, action-oriented experience. - Introduced platforming mechanics (often criticized for being clunky). - Removed party-based combatthe Avatar fights alone. - Magic system based on elemental runes and reagents. Controversy & Criticism: Many fans disliked the darker, less moralistic tone compared to earlier Ultima games. The platforming mechanics were poorly received due to awkward controls. The story was seen as rushed and disconnected from the series' lore. Richard Garriott (Lord British) had limited involvement, leading to a different creative direction. Legacy: Despite its flaws, Ultima VIII has some defenders who appreciate its dark atmosphere and experimentation. It was followed by Ultima IX: Ascension (1999), which concluded the series. Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
