As of 2024, the most popular MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games) include a mix of long-standing classics and newer titles. Here are the top contenders: Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) - Why Popular? Continues to thrive with its engaging story, frequent updates (like the Dawntrail expansion in 2024), and player-friendly policies. - Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S (coming soon). World of Warcraft (WoW) - Why Popular? Still a dominant force with The War Within expansion (2024) and Classic versions (like Cataclysm Classic). - Platforms: PC. Black Desert Online (BDO) - Why Popular? Known for its stunning graphics, deep combat system, and frequent content updates (including Land of the Morning Light). - Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox. Lost Ark - Why Popular? Action-packed combat, regular content drops (like the Thaemine Legion Raid), and a strong Western player base. - Platforms: PC. Guild Wars 2 - Why Popular? No subscription model, frequent expansions (Janthir Wilds in 2024), and a loyal community. - Platforms: PC. Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) - Why Popular? Rich lore, frequent DLCs (like Gold Road in 2024), and flexible gameplay. - Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox. New World - Why Popular? Amazons MMO has improved significantly with expansions (Rise of the Angry Earth) and fresh content. - Platforms: PC. Throne and Liberty - Why Popular? A new contender (2023/2024) from NCSoft, gaining traction with its dynamic combat and open-world PvP. - Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S. RuneScape / Old School RuneScape (OSRS) - Why Popular? Nostalgia-driven, with OSRS receiving major updates (Varlamore in 2024). - Platforms: PC, Mobile. Blue Protocol - Why Popular? Bandai Namcos anime-style MMORPG (global release in 2024) is drawing attention for its visuals and action combat. - Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S. Honorable Mentions: Tarisland (Upcoming 2024 MMORPG with WoW-like mechanics). Ashes of Creation (Highly anticipated, but still in development). Dune: Awakening (Survival-MMO hybrid, expected late 2024). Which is #1? Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft remain the top two, but Lost Ark and Black Desert Online are strong competitors, especially in the action-MMO space. Would you like recommendations based on playstyle (PvP, PvE, story, etc.)?

The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
