The Sphere Server is one of the most popular and long-running emulation servers for Ultima Online (UO), a classic MMORPG. Below is an overview of Sphere, its features, and how it compares to other UO emulators like RunUO and ServUO. What is Sphere Server? A free, open-source UO server emulator written in C++. Known for its custom scripting language (SphereScript), allowing deep customization of game mechanics, items, NPCs, and more. Supports multiple UO client versions, including Classic, T2A, and later expansions. Highly modular, with features like real-time scripting, dynamic NPC behavior, and custom map support. Key Features of Sphere Scripting (SphereScript) - Easy-to-learn scripting language for creating custom content (quests, items, spells, etc.). - Supports real-time script reloading (no server restart needed for changes). Custom Content & Mechanics - Modify combat, skills, crafting, and housing systems. - Supports custom maps, regions, and dungeons. NPC & AI Control - Advanced AI scripting for NPCs (vendors, monsters, pets). - Dynamic spawn systems (timed, conditional, or event-based). Multi-Platform Support - Runs on Windows, Linux (via Wine), and macOS. Active Community & Resources - Long-standing community with many pre-built scripts and mods. - Documentation and forums available for troubleshooting. Comparison with Other UO Emulators Feature Sphere RunUO/ServUO POL (Pentagram Online) Language C++ (SphereScript) C# C++ (POLScript) Ease of Use Moderate (script-heavy) Beginner-friendly Complex Performance Good (optimized for small/medium shards) High (scales well) Moderate Customization Very high (script-driven) High (C# mods) High (POLScript) Client Support Older clients (pre-Enhanced) Modern clients (including Enhanced) Classic clients Getting Started with Sphere Download the latest version from: - Sphere GitHub (official repo) - SphereServer.com (community site) Installation - Extract files and configure sphere.ini for your shard settings. - Place game files (MUL/UOP) in the correct directory. Scripting Basics - Example script (NPC vendor): Running the Server - Launch SphereServer.exe (Windows) or ./sphere (Linux/macOS). Pros & Cons of Sphere Pros: Highly customizable with SphereScript. Lightweight and fast for small/medium shards. Large library of existing scripts. Cons: Steeper learning curve for scripting. Less optimized for large-scale shards than ServUO. Limited support for modern UO clients (e.g., Enhanced Client). Community & Support Forums: SphereServer Forums Discord: Active Sphere/UO emulation communities. Tutorials: Many guides exist for scripting and setup. Conclusion If you want a flexible, script-heavy UO emulator with deep customization, Sphere is a great choice. For larger shards or modern client support, ServUO might be better. Both have strong communities and resources. Would you like help with a specific aspect (scripting, setup, etc.)?

The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
