Soul Blade (Soul Edge in Japan) - PlayStation 1 (PS1) Overview Soul Blade (released as Soul Edge in Japan) is a 3D weapons-based fighting game developed by Project Soul and published by Namco for the PlayStation 1 in 1996 (Japan) and 1997 (worldwide). It is the first installment in the Soulcalibur series and laid the foundation for its iconic successors. Key Features: Gameplay: - A 3D fighter with a focus on weapon-based combat (swords, axes, nunchaku, etc.). - Introduced the 8-way movement system, allowing sidestepping and deeper strategy. - Unique weapon durability mechanicweapons could break after heavy use. - Two attack buttons (horizontal and vertical strikes) plus guard and kick. Characters: - Featured a diverse roster, including: - Mitsurugi (samurai) - Sophitia (sword and shield) - Taki (ninja with kodachi) - Voldo (blind assassin) - Cervantes (pirate with dual swords) - Siegfried (later becomes Nightmare) Modes: - Arcade Mode Fight through a series of battles to reach the final boss, Inferno. - Edge Master Mode A story-driven quest with RPG-like progression and unlockables. - Vs Mode Local multiplayer battles. - Training & Survival Practice or endurance challenges. Graphics & Sound: - One of the best-looking PS1 fighters at the time, with detailed models and stages. - Memorable orchestral soundtrack, including the iconic "The Edge of Soul" theme. Legacy: - Directly led to Soulcalibur (1998, Arcade/Dreamcast), which refined the mechanics. - The "Soul Edge" (the cursed sword) remains a central plot element in the series. Trivia: The Western version (Soul Blade) has extra content, including an art gallery and CG endings for each character. The game was praised for its weapon-based combat, setting it apart from Tekken and Virtua Fighter. A remastered version was included in Soulcalibur: Unbreakable Soul (PSP, 2009). Where to Play Today? Original PS1 disc (compatible with PS1/PS2/PS3). Digital re-release on PS3/PSP/Vita via PSN (as a PS1 Classic). Emulation (using ePSXe, RetroArch, etc.). If you're a fan of classic fighters or the Soulcalibur series, Soul Blade is a must-play for its historical significance and deep combat system. Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
