Here is a comprehensive guide to the best quality acrylic markers, broken down by what makes them "high quality" and specific brand recommendations for different needs. What Makes an Acrylic Marker "High Quality"? Before listing brands, it's helpful to know what you're paying for. High-quality markers differ from cheap ones in these key areas: Pigment Load & Opacity: Cheap markers are often transparent and watery. Quality markers have high pigment density, allowing for opaque, vibrant coverage on dark paper, wood, stone, plastic, and fabric. Lightfastness: Professional-grade markers use pigments that resist fading when exposed to sunlight. Cheap markers often fade or change color over time. Consistency: The paint should be creamy and smooth, not watery (which drips) or gummy (which clogs). Tip Quality: The nib (tip) should be durable, not fray or soften easily, and deliver paint consistently without drying out in the cap. Refillability & Reusability: Top-tier markers are designed to be refilled and have replacement nibs, making them a long-term investment rather than a single-use plastic item. Color Range: A well-thought-out color spectrum (including metallics, neons, and earth tones) indicates a serious product line. Top Tier: The Professional Standard These are the industry standards used by fine artists, illustrators, and professional crafters. They are refillable, have replaceable nibs, and offer the best lightfastness. Molotow ONE4ALL Best for: Versatility (works on almost any surface), professional street art, and customization. Why it's high quality: - Extreme Opacity: Covers black surfaces in one coat. - Surface Agnostic: Adheres to glass, metal, plastic, rubber, textiles, and canvas without priming. - Hardware: The valve system is excellent; they rarely clog or leak. They offer a huge variety of tip sizes (from 1mm to 40mm chisel). - Eco-Friendly: Refillable and replaceable parts. Cons: High price point. Strong solvent smell (requires good ventilation). Verdict: The ultimate workhorse. If you need a marker that will last for years and work on anything, this is it. Posca (by Mitsubishi Pencil) Best for: Illustrators, designers, bullet journaling, and mixed media artists. Why it's high quality: - Consistency: Posca has perfected the "water-based acrylic gouache" formula. It's creamy, smooth, and doesn't bleed through most papers. - Color Range: The most extensive range of vibrant, consistent colors, including amazing pastels, metallics, and neon. - Tip Variety: 8 distinct tip types (from ultra-fine 0.7mm to broad 15mm chisel). - Low Odor: Water-based, so safe for indoor use and for kids (under supervision). Cons: Not as opaque as Molotow on non-porous surfaces (may require 2-3 coats on glass/plastic). Not as durable on outdoor surfaces. Verdict: The undisputed king for paper, canvas, and indoor crafting. The best all-around choice for beginners and professionals alike. Montana Acrylic Best for: Graffiti, street art, and large-scale projects on porous surfaces. Why it's high quality: - High Pressure: Uses a ball-bearing mixing system inside the marker to keep the paint perfectly mixed. - Great for Porous Surfaces: Exceptional flow on concrete, wood, canvas, and paper. - Refillable: Part of the extensive Montana system. Cons: The valve system can be finicky; some users find them prone to dripping if shaken too vigorously. Not as good on non-porous surfaces (glass/metal) as Molotow. Verdict: Excellent for large-scale work on canvas and wood. A favorite among graffiti artists. Best Mid-Range & Specialty: The Value Leaders These offer 90% of the quality of the top tier at a lower price, or excel in a specific area. Artistro Best for: Crafting on rocks, mugs, and glass. Why it's good quality: - Excellent Surface Adhesion: Designed specifically for non-porous surfaces. Once cured, the paint is surprisingly durable and dishwasher-safe (on ceramics). - Great Value: You get a large set of vibrant, opaque colors for a much lower price than Molotow or Posca. Cons: Tips wear out faster than professional brands. Not refillable. Color range is smaller. Verdict: The best "gateway" marker for crafters. Perfect for DIY projects where you don't need pro-level lightfastness. Ohuhu Acrylic Markers Best for: Budget-conscious artists and crafters. Why it's good quality: - Impressive Opacity: Surprisingly opaque for the price. - Large Sets: Huge sets of 30, 40, or 60+ colors are very affordable. - Good for Paper: Smooth, consistent flow on paper and canvas. Cons: Tips can fray quickly with heavy use. Some colors (especially lighter ones) can be streaky. Not refillable. The "brush tip" versions are often just fiber nibs, not true brush tips. Verdict: The best value for money if you're doing a lot of coloring books or beginner canvas work. Don't expect professional-grade longevity. Arteza Acrylic Markers Best for: A middle-ground between Posca and Ohuhu. Why it's good quality: - Smooth Formula: Very close to Posca in terms of flow and consistency. - Great Color Selection: Excellent earth tones and skin tones. - Double-Sided Options: Some sets offer a fine tip on one end and a brush tip on the other. Cons: Like Ohuhu, not refillable and tips will wear down. Opacity is slightly less than Posca. Verdict: A very solid choice for artists who want a premium feel without the premium price. Quick Selection Guide Feature Posca Molotow ONE4ALL Artistro Ohuhu : : : : : Best For Paper, canvas, general art Glass, metal, plastic (any surface) Mugs, rocks, glass crafting Budget coloring, beginner canvas Opacity High Very High (best for dark surfaces) High (on non-porous surfaces) Medium-High (streaky on light colors) Durability Good (indoor use) Excellent (indoor/outdoor) Good (on ceramics after curing) Fair (tips fray faster) Refillable Yes Yes No No Price Smell Low (water-based) Strong (solvent-based) Low (water-based) Low (water-based) Final Verdict If you want the absolute best quality for fine art and illustration: Get Posca. If you want the absolute best quality for customization (glass, metal, plastic): Get Molotow ONE4ALL. If you want the best value for crafting on rocks and mugs: Get Artistro. If you want a huge set of colors for a low price for paper projects: Get Ohuhu. Pro-Tip: Regardless of brand, shake them vigorously (with the cap on!) and prime them (push the nib down on scrap paper) until the color is fully opaque. This is the number one reason people think their markers are "bad."

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
