Ultima Online (UO) was the first commercially successful massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), launched in 1997 by Origin Systems (later acquired by Electronic Arts). It set the foundation for many modern MMOs with its open-world sandbox design, player-driven economy, and deep role-playing mechanics. Key Features of Old Ultima Online (Pre-2000, "Golden Age") Open-World Sandbox - Players could freely explore Britannia, engaging in PvE, PvP, crafting, and social interactions. - No strict leveling systemskills improved through use (skill-based progression). Full Loot PvP & Felucca/Trammel Split - Originally, Felucca (the main world) allowed full-loot PvP, leading to intense player vs. player combat. - In 2000, Trammel (a mirror world) was introduced, offering PvE-only rules, which divided the community. Player Housing & Economy - Players could place houses in the world (first-come, first-served). - A fully player-driven economy where crafters, merchants, and thieves thrived. Unique Mechanics - Murder System: Players who killed others became "red" (outlaws) and were hunted by guards. - Taming & Animal Training: One of the first games with a deep pet system. - Stealing & Thievery: Players could pickpocket others, leading to emergent gameplay. No Instances - Dungeons and towns were open to all, leading to chaotic battles over resources. Legacy & Modern UO Official Servers: Still running under Broadsword Online Games (EA subsidiary), with expansions like Mondains Legacy and High Seas. Free Shards (Private Servers): Many fan-run servers emulate the "old school" UO experience (e.g., UO Renaissance, UO Outlands). Influence: Inspired games like EVE Online, Albion Online, and ARK: Survival Evolved. Nostalgia & Community Many players consider the 19972001 era the "golden age" of UO due to its raw, unregulated sandbox nature. The games community was tight-knit, with memorable events like: Player-run taverns & weddings Guild wars over dungeons like Covetous & Shame Famous exploits (e.g., "bank looting" in early days) Would you like recommendations for classic-style private servers or more details on a specific aspect of old UO?

The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
