Fantasy MMORPG PvE Raids Guilds

Congratulations on the new gaming laptop! It's an exciting purchase. To help you get the most out of it and avoid common pitfalls, here is a comprehensive checklist of what you should do first. Phase 1: The First Boot & Initial Setup Check for Physical Damage: Before you even plug it in, inspect the box and the laptop for any dents, scratches, or signs of being dropped. Plug In and Charge: Gaming laptops are power-hungry. Do not install updates or play games on battery power alone. Plug it into the power adapter. Let it charge to 100% while you do the initial setup. Don't Connect to Wi-Fi (Yet): This is the most important tip. Windows might try to download and install updates, which can slow down the initial setup and sometimes cause driver conflicts. Connect to the internet after you've done the rest of the setup. (If you have an Ethernet cable, use that later). Phase 2: Clean Up Bloatware Gaming laptops come with a lot of pre-installed software. Most of it is useless or even harmful (trialware, antivirus that conflicts with Windows Defender). Trial Antivirus (McAfee, Norton, etc.): Uninstall it immediately. Windows Defender is excellent for gaming. Manufacturer's "Control Center" (Keep, Don't Delete): Software like Lenovo Vantage, ASUS Armoury Crate, MSI Center, Alienware Command Center, etc. This is actually useful for controlling fan speeds, RGB lighting, power profiles, and checking temps. Learn how to use it. Other Crapware: Look for Spotify, Candy Crush, LinkedIn, or other random apps. Uninstall them via Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. Phase 3: Critical Pre-Gaming Updates This is the most important part for stability and performance. Windows Update: Connect to the internet (or Ethernet) and install every available Windows Update. Restart your PC. Repeat the check until there are no more updates. This includes critical GPU drivers from Windows. NVIDIA/AMD/Intel GPU Drivers: - DO NOT use the manufacturer's website (Dell, ASUS, etc.) for GPU drivers unless you have a very specific, rare issue. - Go directly to NVIDIA (GeForce.com) or AMD (AMD.com). - Download and install the latest Game Ready Driver. If you have an NVIDIA card, using GeForce Experience is the easiest way to keep them updated. Chipset Drivers: Check your manufacturer's support page (e.g., support.lenovo.com) for your specific laptop model. Download and install the Chipset Driver and Wireless/Network Driver. BIOS/UEFI Update: This is optional for most users, but it can fix stability and performance issues. Check your manufacturer's support page for your exact model number. Do not skip this if the update fixes a critical bug. Follow the instructions very carefully. Phase 4: Tweak Power & Performance Settings Gaming laptops are designed to run hot. You need to set the right power profile. Windows Power Settings: - Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options. - Select High Performance or Ultimate Performance (you can enable the latter by opening a Command Prompt as Admin and typing powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61). Disable "Turbo Boost" for better temperatures (Optional): Some CPUs boost too high, causing thermal throttling. You can limit the max processor state to 99% in Power Options to disable boost, or use ThrottleStop/NTune for more granular control. This will reduce performance but improve temperatures. Undervolt (Advanced): If you have an Intel CPU (7th-13th gen), undervolting can significantly lower temperatures and improve performance. Tools like ThrottleStop or Intel XTU can do this. This is not for beginners. Phase 5: Essential Software to Install NVIDIA GeForce Experience: (If you have an NVIDIA GPU) for driver updates, game optimization, and shadow recording. MSI Afterburner: The #1 tool for monitoring your PC's performance (temps, usage, FPS). It's not just for overclocking. HWMonitor: A simpler tool to check temperatures of your CPU, GPU, and SSD. Discord/Steam/Game Launchers: You'll need them. A Good Browser: No more Edge/Internet Explorer. OBS Studio: If you plan on streaming or recording. Phase 6: Hardware & Thermal Care Elevate the Laptop: NEVER game on a bed, pillow, or soft surface. This suffocates the fans. Use a laptop cooling pad or at least a hard, flat surface. Clean the Fans: Every 3-6 months, use compressed air to blow out dust from the vents. Dust is the #1 killer of gaming laptop performance. Lower Fan Speed? No. When gaming, set the fan profile to "Turbo" or "Performance" in your control center. Quiet fans mean high temps, which means lower performance and shorter lifespan. Don't be afraid of 85-90C. CPUs are designed to run that hot under full load. If you hit 95-100C, you have a thermal problem. Phase 7: The First Game Don't start with a benchmark test. Start with a game you love. Lower the graphics settings first. Set them to "High" or "Medium" in demanding games. Use DLSS (NVIDIA) or FSR (AMD) for a huge performance boost. Check your FPS. Use the in-game overlay (e.g., GeForce Experience Alt+R) or MSI Afterburner. Aim for 60 FPS or higher. Tweak the fan curve. Use your manufacturer's software to create a custom fan curve that keeps temps under 85C. Final Pro-Tip: Don't use your laptop on a metal surface. It can damage the battery or components if it gets hot. Enjoy your new rig! What model did you get?

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
