If you're looking for MMORPGs similar to EverQuest (EQ), youre likely interested in games with a classic, hardcore, group-focused, and immersive fantasy experience. Here are some great options: EverQuest II (EQ2) - The direct sequel to EverQuest, with updated graphics and mechanics but retaining the deep lore and challenging gameplay. - More accessible than EQ1 but still retains some of the old-school elements. Project 1999 (P99) - A free, fan-run emulation of EverQuests classic era (up to Velious expansion). - True to the originals punishing difficulty, slow leveling, and group dependency. Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen - A spiritual successor to EverQuest, being developed by some of the original EQ team (including Brad McQuaid before his passing). - Focuses on group-based gameplay, challenging mechanics, and a deep world. - Still in development (Alpha testing ongoing). Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (Emulator: VGOEmulator) - Another game by Brad McQuaid, designed as a successor to EQ. - Had a rough launch but was beloved for its deep world and group mechanics. - Now playable via private emulator servers. Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC) - Classic MMORPG with a strong PvE and PvP (Realm vs. Realm) focus. - Similar old-school mechanics and group-based dungeon crawling. Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) - More story-driven but retains some EQ-like mechanics (group dungeons, raids, and a slower pace). - Great for Tolkien fans who want a classic MMO feel. Final Fantasy XI (FFXI) - Heavily inspired by EQ, with a punishing difficulty curve and deep party mechanics. - Still has an active community and official servers. Asherons Call (Emulator: AC Emulator) - One of the earliest MMORPGs, with a vast open world and deep mechanics. - Private servers keep it alive. Rift (Classic Server Option) - While more modern, Rifts early game had EQ/WoW hybrid mechanics. - Some private servers aim to recreate the original experience. WoW Classic (Hardcore Mode) - While World of Warcraft was originally designed as a more accessible EQ, WoW Classic (especially Hardcore mode) brings back some of the challenge and community focus. Upcoming Games to Watch: Monsters & Memories A retro-style MMO heavily inspired by EQ (currently in development). EverQuest 3 (Unconfirmed Rumors) There have been whispers, but nothing official yet. What Makes These Games Like EQ? Group-Centric Gameplay Dungeons and raids require coordination. Slow, Rewarding Progression Leveling takes time, death has consequences. Open, Immersive Worlds No hand-holding, exploration is key. Class Roles Matter Tanks, healers, CC, and DPS all have critical roles. Would you prefer something exactly like EQ (e.g., P99), or are you open to modern takes on the formula?

The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
