Fantasy MMORPG PvE Raids Guilds

Both Guild Wars 2 (GW2) and Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) are popular MMORPGs, but they cater to different playstyles and preferences. Heres a detailed comparison to help you decide which might suit you better: Gameplay & Combat GW2: - Action-Oriented: Fast-paced, dodging, and movement-based combat. - No Traditional Trinity: Flexible roles (though support/healers exist in endgame). - Dynamic Events: Open-world PvE focuses on spontaneous group content. - No Gear Treadmill: Horizontal progression (gear stays relevant for years). FFXIV: - Tab-Targeting: Slower, methodical rotations with a heavy emphasis on party synergy. - Holy Trinity (Tank/Healer/DPS): Strict roles in group content. - Scripted Dungeons/Raids: More structured, story-driven instanced content. - Gear Progression: Vertical progression (new expansions raise gear levels). Story & World GW2: - Lore-Rich but Less Linear: Expansions (HoT, PoF, EoD) add to the world, but storytelling is less cinematic. - Player-Driven Narrative: Choices affect personal story, but less emphasis on cutscenes. FFXIV: - Heavily Story-Driven: Expansions (Heavensward, Shadowbringers, Endwalker) are critically acclaimed. - Main Scenario Quest (MSQ) is Mandatory: You must complete hundreds of hours of story to access endgame. - Cinematic & Voice-Acted: More like a single-player JRPG with MMO elements. Endgame Content GW2: - Open-World Meta Events: Large-scale map-wide battles (e.g., Dragons Stand, Drizzlewood). - Fractals & Raids: Shorter, challenging instanced content (but fewer raids than FFXIV). - WvW & PvP: Strong focus on large-scale PvP (World vs. World) and structured PvP. FFXIV: - Dungeons, Trials & Raids: Extremely polished, scripted boss fights (Savage/Ultimate difficulties). - Housing & Side Content: Deep crafting, Gold Saucer minigames, RP-friendly features. - No Open-World PvP: Only structured PvP (Crystalline Conflict, Frontline). Monetization GW2: - Buy-to-Play: No subscription, but expansions and Living World episodes cost extra. - Gem Store: Cosmetic/convenience items (no pay-to-win). FFXIV: - Subscription-Based: Free trial up to Stormblood (lvl 70), but requires a sub afterward. - Optional Mog Station: Mostly cosmetics, mounts, and story skips. Community & Social Features GW2: - Casual-Friendly: No pressure to keep up with gear; easy to jump back in. - Server-Based WvW: Strong server identity in PvP. FFXIV: - Highly Social: Duty Finder, Free Companies (guilds), and heavy RP presence. - More Structured Group Play: Party finder for raids/dungeons. Which One Should You Play? Play GW2 if you - Prefer action combat and open-world exploration. - Want a flexible, horizontal progression system. - Enjoy PvP or large-scale WvW battles. - Dislike subscriptions. Play FFXIV if you - Love deep, story-driven JRPG experiences. - Enjoy structured, challenging group PvE (raids/dungeons). - Prefer a slower, tactical combat system. - Dont mind a subscription model. Final Verdict GW2 is better for open-world freedom, PvP, and casual play. FFXIV excels in storytelling, polished PvE content, and social features. If possible, try bothFFXIV has a generous free trial, and GW2s core game is free.

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
