free online horror games pc
Of course! Here is a comprehensive list of excellent free horror games for PC, broken down by category so you can find what scares you most. You can play all of these on PC via platforms like Steam, Itch.io, or directly from a developer's website. Top Tier & Must-Plays (Highly Recommended) These are considered some of the best in the genre, period. Cry of Fear: A classic, full-length psychological horror FPS built on the Half-Life 1 engine. Incredibly atmospheric, with a disturbing story, great monster design, and even co-op campaigns. A massive achievement for a free game. Iron Lung: A short, incredibly tense experience. You pilot a tiny submarine into an ocean of blood on a moon, with only limited controls and a camera. The dread is palpable, and it's a masterclass in minimalist horror. FAITH: The Unholy Trinity: A unique retro-styled horror trilogy inspired by 8-bit graphics and "satanic panic." It uses rotoscoped animation and a terrifying chiptune soundtrack to tell a story of exorcism and cosmic horror. Deeply unsettling. World of Horror: A 1-bit love letter to Junji Ito and H.P. Lovecraft. It's a roguelite RPG where you investigate mysteries in a cursed town. The stark art style and random events make every playthrough uniquely terrifying. Short & Impactful Experiences (Great for a Quick Scare) Perfect for one or two sittings, often with a strong central idea. No Players Online: A brilliant meta-horror game that presents itself as an empty, old-school multiplayer FPS server. The horror comes from exploring the liminal space and discovering that you might not be as alone as you think. My Friendly Neighborhood: A recent standout that feels like a polished, full release. It's a survival horror game set in a haunted, abandoned puppet TV studio. It's less about gore and more about dread, with clever AI and a wonderfully creepy setting. The Static Speaks My Name: A very short (15 min) but profoundly disturbing psychological experience about obsession and despair. It leaves a lasting impression. The Sandman: A point-and-click horror game with a beautiful, painterly style and a deeply sad, creepy story about a child's nightmares. Unique & Experimental Horror Games that play with format, narrative, or your perception. Doki Doki Literature Club!: GO IN BLIND. Do not look up anything about it. It presents itself as a cute anime dating sim. It is not. One of the most famous and effective psychological horror/meta experiences ever made. IMSCARED: A pixelated game that breaks the fourth wall in terrifying ways, manipulating files on your actual desktop. A true pioneer of meta-horror. Anatomy: By Kitty Horrorshow (a master of the genre). You explore a house at night, finding cassette tapes that describe the "anatomy" of a home. It builds an incredible sense of existential dread with simple visuals and superb writing. Paratopic: A gritty, low-poly nightmare fuel trip. Described as a "psychotic road trip," it features illicit VHS tapes, a mysterious gas, and a non-linear story that oozes atmosphere. Classic & Foundational Games The games that helped define free horror. The SCP Games (SCP - Containment Breach): The most famous game based on the collaborative SCP Foundation wiki. You try to escape a facility where reality-bending entities have breached containment. Janky but incredibly influential and scary. Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion (formerly Spooky's House of Jump Scares): Starts as a parody of cheap jump scares with 1000 rooms to traverse. It slowly, masterfully evolves into something much more sinister and lore-heavy. A long, rewarding experience. Where to Find Them: Steam: The easiest platform. All games here have a store page with reviews and guides. Search the names directly. Itch.io: A treasure trove for indie and experimental horror. Often has more avant-garde and short-form games. You can download directly or sometimes play in your browser. Developer Websites: Some older classics (like some SCP variants) are hosted on independent sites. Tips for Getting Started: Use Headphones: Sound design is 70% of the horror experience. Check Tags: On Steam/Itch, look at tags like "Psychological Horror," "Atmospheric," "Lovecraftian," or "Walking Simulator" to fine-tune your search. Embrace the Jank: Some free games have rough edges in graphics or controls. The creativity and scares often more than make up for it. My personal "Start Here" recommendations: For classic survival horror: Cry of Fear For pure, suffocating tension: Iron Lung For unique style & story: FAITH For a mind-bending experience: Doki Doki Literature Club! (remember, go in blind!) Happy haunting

Venture into the depths of Azeroth itself in this groundbreaking expansion. Face new threats emerging from the planet's core, explore mysterious underground realms, and uncover secrets that will reshape your understanding of the Warcraft universe forever.
The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
