Fantasy MMORPG PvE Raids Guilds

Final Fantasy XI (FFXI) and Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) are both MMORPGs in the Final Fantasy series, but they differ significantly in gameplay, design, and community. Heres a detailed comparison: Release & Development FFXI (2002) The first Final Fantasy MMO, developed during the PS2 era. Originally required a hard drive for console play. FFXIV (2010, relaunched as A Realm Reborn in 2013) Initially a disastrous launch, but was completely rebuilt into one of the most successful MMOs today. Gameplay Style FFXI More traditional, slower-paced, and complex: - Turn-based combat with auto-attacks and ability delays. - Heavy reliance on party play (soloing is difficult). - Open-world danger with aggressive enemies. - Requires deep knowledge of systems like "Skillchains" and "Magic Bursts." - No quest markersplayers must explore and read guides. FFXIV Modern, streamlined, and accessible: - Real-time action with a global cooldown (GCD) system. - Solo-friendly with Duty Finder for group content. - Linear story progression (MSQ is mandatory). - More casual-friendly with clear quest markers and tutorials. Story & World FFXI Expansive, lore-rich world with optional storytelling: - Focuses on exploration and player-driven experiences. - Less emphasis on a central narrative (though expansions like Chains of Promathia are highly praised). FFXIV Narrative-driven with a strong main scenario: - Heavily cinematic with voice acting (especially from Heavensward onward). - Expansions build on a continuous epic storyline (like a single-player JRPG). - More structured world design with instanced zones. Community & Social Aspects FFXI Tight-knit, veteran-heavy community: - Required heavy coordination for parties (pre-Abyssea era). - Still active but smaller, with many private servers. FFXIV Massive, welcoming player base: - Duty Finder makes grouping easy. - Strong RP and social scene (e.g., Limsa Lominsa as a hangout spot). - Frequent seasonal events and community activities. Difficulty & Endgame FFXI Punishingly difficult in its prime: - Leveling took months, death penalties were harsh. - Endgame required elite static groups (e.g., Sky, Sea, Dynamis). - Still challenging for new players due to outdated mechanics. FFXIV More accessible but still has hardcore content: - Casual-friendly leveling and gearing. - High-end raids (Savage, Ultimate) for hardcore players. - Relatively easier to catch up with gear. Graphics & Presentation FFXI PS2-era visuals, charming but dated. FFXIV Modern, polished, with frequent graphical updates. Subscription Model Both require a monthly subscription, but: - FFXI is cheaper and has fewer updates. - FFXIV gets major expansions every 2 years. Which One Should You Play? Play FFXI if: - You love old-school, challenging MMOs. - You enjoy deep mechanics and slower progression. - You prefer exploration over story-driven content. Play FFXIV if: - You want a modern, story-focused MMO. - You like fast-paced combat and accessibility. - You enjoy JRPG narratives with MMO elements. Final Verdict FFXI is a niche classic for hardcore fans. FFXIV is the more popular, polished, and beginner-friendly choice today. Would you like recommendations on starting in either game?

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
