Fantasy MMORPG PvE Raids Guilds

Both The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) and Guild Wars 2 (GW2) are popular MMORPGs with distinct strengths and weaknesses. Heres a detailed comparison to help you decide which might suit you better: Gameplay & Combat ESO - Action-Oriented Combat: Uses a hybrid system with light/heavy attacks, active dodging, and skill-based abilities. - First-Person Option: Lets you play like a traditional Elder Scrolls game (though less optimal for group content). - Class Flexibility: Classes have unique identities, but builds are highly customizable with weapon and skill choices. - Global Cooldown (GCD): Skills share a 1-second GCD, making combat feel slower than GW2. GW2 - Fast-Paced, Dynamic Combat: No GCD means faster ability chaining, with dodges and positioning being crucial. - Weapon-Based Skills: Your equipped weapon determines most of your skills, encouraging build diversity. - Active Defense: Dodging, blocks, and evades are key to survival (no traditional "holy trinity" in base game). - Elite Specializations: Expansions add new playstyles (e.g., Revenant, Mechanist). Winner? Prefer faster, reactive combat? GW2 Like a mix of action and RPG depth? ESO Story & World ESO - Lore-Rich: Deep ties to Elder Scrolls universe, with fully voiced quests and faction-based storytelling. - Solo-Friendly: Most content can be done alone, including main quests. - Phased Instances: Your choices (e.g., faction allegiance) affect the world. GW2 - Living World: Dynamic events replace traditional quests, making the world feel alive. - Personal Story: Choices early on shape your narrative, but later expansions (like Heart of Thorns) have a linear plot. - No Subscription Model: Expansions and Living World episodes are buy-to-play. Winner? Want deep lore and voice acting? ESO Prefer dynamic, open-world events? GW2 Progression & Endgame ESO - Vertical Progression: Gear tiers (up to Champion Point 160) matter, but power plateaus afterward. - Endgame Focus: Trials (raids), dungeons, and PvP (Cyrodiil, Battlegrounds). - Crafting & Housing: Extensive systems with player housing and guild traders. GW2 - Horizontal Progression: Max-level gear (Ascended/Legendary) stays relevant forever. - Endgame Variety: Fractals (scaling dungeons), raids, Strikes, WvW, and open-world metas. - Mastery System: Post-80 progression unlocks mounts, gliding, and other QoL features. Winner? Like gear treadmill and structured endgame? ESO Prefer horizontal progression and varied activities? GW2 Monetization ESO - Buy-to-Play + Optional Sub (ESO Plus): Sub unlocks DLCs, crafting bag, and bonuses. - Crown Store: Cosmetic and convenience items (some pay-for-power in loot boxes). GW2 - Buy-to-Play (No Sub): Expansions and Living World episodes cost extra. - Gem Store: Mostly cosmetics/convenience (no pay-to-win). Winner? GW2 is cheaper long-term, but ESOs sub offers good value if you play regularly. PvP ESO - Large-Scale (Cyrodiil): Faction-based siege warfare (200+ players). - Small-Scale (Battlegrounds): 4v4v4 objective-based matches. GW2 - World vs. World (WvW): Server-based large-scale battles with keeps and siege. - Structured PvP: 5v5 conquest (balanced stats, skill-based). Winner? Prefer massive battles? ESOs Cyrodiil Like balanced, skill-based PvP? GW2s sPvP Final Verdict Play ESO if - You love Elder Scrolls lore and voice-acted quests. - You enjoy structured endgame (raids, trials). - You dont mind a subscription for convenience. Play GW2 if - You want fast, fluid combat with no gear treadmill. - You prefer open-world events and horizontal progression. - You dislike subscriptions and paywalls. Both are great, but GW2 is more accessible and unique, while ESO offers deeper storytelling and traditional MMO elements. Try boththey have free trials!

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
