epic games vs steam
The rivalry between Epic Games Store (EGS) and Steam is one of the biggest debates in PC gaming. Heres a breakdown of their key differences, strategies, and why gamers and developers often have strong opinions. Market Position & History Steam (Valve): Launched in 2003, its the established market leader with a massive library, robust community features, forums, reviews, workshops, and long-standing user loyalty. Epic Games Store: Launched in 2018, its the aggressive challenger, funded by Fortnites success, aiming to break Steams dominance by attracting users and developers with incentives. Revenue Split Steam: Traditionally used a 70/30 split (developer/Valve), but introduced a tiered system: 75/25 after 10 million in sales, 80/20 after 50 million. Epic: Offers a 88/12 split from day one, which is more attractive to many developers, especially indies. Exclusive Games Epics Strategy: Pays developers/publishers for timed exclusives (e.g., Borderlands 3, Control, Kingdom Hearts). This brings games to EGS first (often 612 months before Steam). Steams Approach: Rarely pays for exclusives; relies on its ecosystem to attract releases. Criticizes exclusives as anti-consumer, while Epic argues it needs them to compete. Features & Ecosystem Steam: - Mature feature set: forums, user reviews, Steam Workshop (mods), family sharing, Big Picture Mode, Remote Play, Steam Input, etc. - Huge library, including many older titles and niche games. - Community hubs and trading cards/market. Epic: - Initially launched with minimal features (no shopping cart at first, no user reviews). - Gradually adding features (cloud saves, achievements, mod support). - Offers free weekly games to build user base. - Integrated with Epics Unreal Engine (5% engine royalty waived if sold on EGS). Pricing & Consumer Benefits Steam: Frequent sales (Summer/Winter), refund policy (within 2 hours/14 days), regional pricing. Epic: Also has sales, sometimes with 10 coupon deals, and free games. Competes on price during promotions. Developer Relations Epic: Pushes the fairer 88/12 split, Unreal Engine integration, and direct support. Steam: Offers Steamworks API, broader reach, and community tools. Has lowered cuts in response to competition. Controversies Epic: Criticized for exclusivity deals (seen as forcing users to another store), privacy concerns (early launcher scanned Steam files), and lacking features. Steam: Criticized for high revenue cut, allowing asset flips and low-quality games, and slow feature improvements due to lack of competition. Future & Impact Epics goal: Disrupt Steams monopoly to create a more competitive market. Steams response: Improving revenue splits, updating features, and defending its open model (allows keys to be sold elsewhere). Gamers: Some prefer Steams features/library; others appreciate Epics free games and developer-friendly split. Summary: Key Trade-offs Aspect Steam Epic Games Store Library Size Huge Smaller, curated Revenue Split Tiered (70/30 up to 80/20) 88/12 flat Exclusives Few Many timed exclusives Features Rich, mature Catching up, simpler Consumer Perks Sales, community, workshops Free games, coupon deals Developer Support Broad tools, large audience Better split, Unreal benefits Bottom Line Steam is the all-in-one platform with deep features and network effects. Epic is the pro-developer challenger using exclusives and a better revenue split to compete, but playing catch-up on user-facing features. The competition has arguably benefited developers (better splits) and consumers (free games, sales wars), but the exclusivity battles continue to fuel debate in the gaming community.

Venture into the depths of Azeroth itself in this groundbreaking expansion. Face new threats emerging from the planet's core, explore mysterious underground realms, and uncover secrets that will reshape your understanding of the Warcraft universe forever.
The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
