Of course. Heres a comprehensive overview of what it means to be a QA Tester at Epic Games, covering roles, requirements, and how to break into the field. What Does a QA Tester Do at Epic Games? At a high level, QA Testers ensure the quality of Epic's productsprimarily Fortnite, Unreal Engine, and the Epic Games Store. The role is far more than just "playing games all day." It's a technical, detail-oriented, and critical part of the development process. Key Responsibilities Typically Include: Bug Reporting: Finding, documenting, and tracking software defects with precise steps to reproduce. This is the core of the job. Test Case Execution: Following detailed test plans to verify new features, fixes, and core functionality. Compatibility Testing: Testing across a massive range of PC configurations, consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch), and mobile devices. Regression Testing: Ensuring new updates don't break existing features. Performance & Stress Testing: Checking frame rates, server load in live events, and memory leaks. Feature Validation: Working closely with developers and producers to ensure a feature works as designed. Live Ops Support: For a live service like Fortnite, this is huge. Testing urgent hotfixes, new content drops (like a new season or collaboration), and in-game events in real-time. Types of QA Roles at Epic Epic often structures its QA in specialized tiers: QA Analyst / Tester: The foundational role. Executes test plans, finds bugs, and reports them. QA Engineer: More technical. Involves writing automated test scripts, building test tools, and working directly with development code. Often requires programming knowledge (like Python or C++). Compatibility QA: Specializes in the hardware matrixdifferent GPUs, CPUs, drivers, and consoles. Localization QA: Tests translated text, audio, and cultural appropriateness for global markets. Compliance QA: Ensures the game meets all technical requirements for platforms like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo (TCRs/TRCs). Typical Requirements & Skills Education: A degree is often not strictly required. Demonstrated skills and experience are more important. Degrees in Computer Science, Game Development, or related fields are a plus. Technical Skills: Unreal Engine Knowledge: Even basic familiarity is a major advantage. Understanding the editor, console commands, and how assets work is crucial. Bug Tracking Software: Experience with Jira, DevTrack, or similar systems. Platform Knowledge: Understanding of PC hardware, console ecosystems, and mobile OS. Basic Networking: Understanding of client-server models is helpful for multiplayer testing. Core Soft Skills: Meticulous Attention to Detail: The ability to notice subtle graphical glitches or inconsistent mechanics. Clear & Concise Communication: Writing bug reports that are easy for developers to understand and act upon. Analytical & Problem-Solving Mindset: Not just finding the "what," but investigating the "why" of a bug. Patience and Persistence: Testing the same area repeatedly to check for regressions. Teamwork: QA is a highly collaborative function. The Reality & Culture Fast-Paced & High-Pressure: Especially around major Fortnite updates or Unreal Engine releases. Crunch periods can happen. Impactful Work: You are the last line of defense before millions of players see the product. Finding a critical bug before launch is immensely valuable. Not Just "Playing Games": You may spend hours trying to break a single feature or walking into walls to test collision. It's structured, methodological work. Pathway to Other Roles: QA is a classic entry point into the games industry. Many testers move into roles like Production, Design, Community Management, or even Engineering. How to Get a QA Job at Epic Games Build Foundational Knowledge: Learn the basics of game development. The best thing you can do is download Unreal Engine (it's free) and start tinkering. Follow tutorials. Gain Experience: You likely won't start at Epic without some experience. Look for QA roles at other game studios (AAA, mobile, or indie). Consider contract/agency positions, which are common in QA. Moderate or participate in game betas. Document bugs formally as practice. Create a "Application-Ready" Skill Set: Play Fortnite and use Unreal Engine critically. Think about how systems work. Learn the basics of a relevant programming language (Python is great for automation). Practice writing excellent bug reports. There are templates online. Apply Strategically: Check the Epic Games Careers Page. Filter by "Quality Assurance" and location (main hubs: Cary, North Carolina; Austin, Texas; Montreal, Canada; Europe). Tailor your resume and cover letter. Highlight any technical skills, Unreal Engine experience, and your understanding of live service games. Network on LinkedIn with Epic employees (respectfully). Attend industry events if possible. Final Thoughts Being a QA Tester at Epic Games is a challenging but rewarding role for someone passionate about games, technology, and quality. It requires a blend of technical aptitude, relentless curiosity, and strong communication. It's one of the most direct ways to get your foot in the door of a major game company and contribute to products used by hundreds of millions of people. Start by mastering the tools of the trade: Unreal Engine and a critical, analytical approach to playing games. Good luck

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
