Fantasy MMORPG PvE Raids Guilds

Yes, Epic Games has conducted multiple rounds of layoffs recently. Here are the key details: Major Layoff in September 2023 The most significant event was a major restructuring in September 2023, where Epic Games laid off approximately 830 employees, which was about 16% of its workforce. Reasons cited by CEO Tim Sweeney: Spending More Than Earning: Sweeney stated that the company had been spending way more money than it was earning. He admitted he had been optimistic that the "race for growth" at Epic (driven by Fortnite and the Epic Games Store) would continue, but reality set in. Need for Financial Sustainability: The goal was to get to a sustainable financial position without relying on future growth that might not materialize. Epic's main profitable segments (Fortnite and the Engine) needed to fund the company's overall structure. What was affected: The layoffs were across the entire company. Epic also divested two companies it had previously acquired: Bandcamp (the music platform was sold) and SuperAwesome (the kid-safe tech company was spun off to become independent). Follow-up Layoffs in October 2023 About a month later, Epic laid off around 250 employees at its video game developer, Mediatonic, the studio behind Fall Guys. This was part of the same restructuring effort announced in September. Context and Recent News (2024) Epic's financial push has been heavily driven by its legal battle with Apple and its significant investments in the Epic Games Store (which offers developers a larger revenue share but operates at a loss) and the metaverse vision for Fortnite. Despite the layoffs, Epic has seen a resurgence with the massive success of the *2023 Fortnite "Big Bang" event and new chapters, which broke player records. In early 2024, Epic announced a new publishing deal with Disney for a 1.5 billion investment, showing it is still making major strategic moves. In July 2024, Epic reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over allegations of tricking players into making unintended purchases and violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The settlement included a 245 million refund pool for consumers and required Epic to make significant privacy and billing changes. Summary The core takeaway is that the 2023 layoffs were a major correction after a period of aggressive, growth-focused spending. Epic is now trying to streamline its operations to achieve profitability based on its core, successful businesses (Unreal Engine and Fortnite), while still investing in its long-term goals like the Epic Games Store and metaverse experiences. The recent FTC settlement adds another layer of regulatory and financial pressure, but the Disney deal shows continued high-level partnership and ambition.

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
