epic games 3d scanner
Epic Games doesn't make a physical 3D scanner, but they are a central player in the 3D scanning ecosystem through their software and marketplace. Heres a breakdown of how Epic fits into the 3D scanning world: RealityCapture (The Flagship Scanning Software) This is Epic's most direct contribution. RealityCapture is a powerhouse photogrammetry software that creates ultra-high-quality 3D models from photos and/or laser scans. What it does: You take hundreds of overlapping photos of an object, place, or person. The software analyzes them, calculates depth, and stitches them together into a detailed 3D mesh with realistic textures. Epic's Role: They acquired the company behind it (Capturing Reality) in 2021. It's now tightly integrated with the Unreal Engine workflow. Pricing: It has a unique "pay-per-input" model, where you only pay when you export a final model, making it accessible for hobbyists and professionals alike. Unreal Engine (The Destination for Scanned Content) This is where scanned assets come to life. Unreal Engine is built to handle massive, photorealistic 3D scans. Nanite Virtualized Geometry: This revolutionary technology allows you to import film-quality 3D scans (with billions of polygons) directly into a real-time engine. It intelligently streams only the detail you need, enabling incredibly detailed worlds without crashing. Lumen Global Illumination: Provides realistic lighting that makes scanned assets look perfectly natural in their virtual environment. Use Cases: This pipeline is used for film & TV (like in The Mandalorian), AAA games, architectural visualization, and virtual production. Quixel Megascans (The Largest Library of Scanned Assets) Epic acquired Quixel in 2019. Megascans is a vast, ever-growing library of photogrammetry-scanned assets. What it is: Thousands of real-world materials (concrete, wood, rust), 3D objects (rocks, plants, furniture), and full environments, all captured with professional scanning equipment. Integration: These assets are optimized for Unreal Engine and are free to use if you are creating content in Unreal (under the Unreal Engine End User License Agreement). Bridge: The Quixel Bridge app lets you browse, download, and manage Megascans assets directly into your Unreal or other 3D projects. MetaHuman Creator (For Scanning & Creating Digital Humans) While not a scanner itself, MetaHuman is a cloud-based app that lets you create ultra-realistic digital humans in minutes. Connection to Scanning: The underlying data comes from high-fidelity 3D scans of real people. You can also use an iPhone with the MetaHuman app to capture facial data and animate your MetaHuman with your own performance. So, what's the "Epic Games 3D Scanner" workflow? If you want to use Epic's ecosystem for 3D scanning, heres a typical path: Capture: Use any camera (DSLR, drone, or even a modern smartphone) to take hundreds of photos of your subject. Process: Import those photos into RealityCapture to generate your textured 3D model. Optimize/Enhance: Use tools within RealityCapture or other software (like Blender) to clean up and prepare the model. Import & Use: Bring your model into Unreal Engine. Use Nanite for rendering efficiency. Combine it with assets from Quixel Megascans for the environment. (Optional) Animate: If it's a character, you could rig it or use its likeness to drive a MetaHuman. What about hardware scanners? Epic doesn't make hardware. For hardware, you'd look at: Photogrammetry: High-resolution cameras, drones. Lidar Scanners: For large-scale environments (like the Leica BLK series). Structured Light/Handheld Scanners: For detailed objects (like Artec Eva, Shining 3D). Consumer Options: iPhone/iPad Pro with Lidar (great for quick scans), and various apps. In summary: Think of Epic Games as the "software and platform hub" for professional 3D scanning, not a hardware manufacturer. They provide the essential tools to process scans (RealityCapture), use them in real-time (Unreal Engine), and access a world-class library of them (Quixel Megascans).

Venture into the depths of Azeroth itself in this groundbreaking expansion. Face new threats emerging from the planet's core, explore mysterious underground realms, and uncover secrets that will reshape your understanding of the Warcraft universe forever.
The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
