ending of brave new world
The ending of Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is both tragic and thought-provoking, emphasizing the novel's themes of individuality, freedom, and the cost of societal conformity. Key Events of the Ending: John the Savage's Revolt After witnessing the shallow, pleasure-driven society of the World State, John (the "Savage") tries to resist its influence by isolating himself in an abandoned lighthouse. Public Humiliation & Breakdown A crowd gathers to watch him whip himself in penance, but they misinterpret his suffering as entertainment. When they begin chanting for him to participate in an orgy (a common social ritual), he is horrified and lashes out violently. Final Despair Overwhelmed by guilt, self-loathing, and the impossibility of true freedom in this world, John hangs himself. Significance of the Ending: Tragic Irony John, who represented purity and resistance, is ultimately destroyed by the very society he rejected. His suicide underscores the incompatibility of individuality in a world that suppresses deep emotion and free will. The World States Victory The system remains unchallenged; even John's rebellion is reduced to a spectacle, showing how dissent is absorbed and neutralized. Huxleys Warning The ending suggests that a society built on comfort, control, and superficial happiness will crush true humanity, leaving no room for genuine struggle or meaning. Final Line: "Slowly, very slowly, like two unhurried compass needles, the feet turned towards the right; north, north-east, east, south-east, south, south-south-west; then paused, and, after a few seconds, turned as unhurriedly back towards the left. South-south-west, south, south-east, east..." This eerie, mechanical description of Johns hanging body reinforces the dehumanization of the World Stateeven in death, his body is reduced to a mindless, swaying object. The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
