drama 80
Heres a dramatic scene written in 80 lines. Its a one-act play titled "The Last Candle." THE LAST CANDLE A play in one act (80 lines) CHARACTERS: ELARA (30s), a scientist. KAI (30s), her partner. THE VOICE (offstage, digital/AI). SETTING: A dim, circular room. The only light comes from a single, flickering candle on a metal table. The walls are covered in dead screens. A small air recycler hums faintly. (The play begins. ELARA stares at the candle. KAI paces.) KAI: How much longer? ELARA: Until what? The candle dies? The oxygen runs out? Or the signal from Earth finally stops? KAI: Dont. ELARA: We have to be realistic. KAI: Realistic is checking the logs. Realistic is trying the comms one more time. ELARA: Ive tried them. Twelve times. The satellites are dark. The relay station is dark. Earth KAI: (Stops pacing.) Earth isnt dark. It cant be. ELARA: The last transmission was static. You heard it. KAI: I heard interference. ELARA: (Softly.) Kai. Weve been up here for three years. There were eight of us. Now theres two. We havent heard a human voice from the surface in six months. (Kai slams his hand on the table. The candle wobbles. Elara steadies it.) KAI: Then we go down. ELARA: The lander is dead. The fuel cells are crystallized. Even if we could launch, theres nowhere to land. The atmosphere is wrong. The readings are unstable. KAI: So we just sit here? On this floating coffin? Waiting for a flame to go out? ELARA: Yes. (Silence. The hum of the recycler is loud.) KAI: I remember the day we left. There were crowds. Music. They called us heroes. ELARA: They called us the future. KAI: Now were the past. The last two people who dont know theyre dead yet. ELARA: Were not dead. KAI: Whats the difference? No ones listening. No ones coming. (ELARA picks up the candle.) ELARA: Do you know why I lit this? KAI: Sentiment. ELARA: No. Its a test. A physical signal. If that flame changes shapeflickers a certain wayit means the air is changing. It means the recycler is failing. KAI: (Quietly.) Is it? ELARA: Look at it. Its steady. Perfectly steady. KAI: So we have time. ELARA: We have tonight. (A soft click. A green light blinks on one of the dead screens. They both freeze.) KAI: What was that? ELARA: It cant be. KAI: The screen. Its live. (Elara moves to the screen. Her hands tremble.) ELARA: Its a signal. A direct line. Encrypted. KAI: From Earth? ELARA: No. The encryption is its ours. Station-side. KAI: Thats impossible. Theres no one else. (The screen flickers. A garbled VOICE comes through.) VOICE: (Static-laced.) do you read? This is (Static.) survivor. Repeat survivor. (Elara and Kai stare at each other.) KAI: Respond. ELARA: It could be a loop. A ghost signal. KAI: Elara. Respond. (Elara presses a button. Her voice cracks.) ELARA: This is Station Serenity. We read you. Identify yourself. (Long pause. The candle flickers.) VOICE: (Clearing, becoming clear.) Serenity? Is that really you? KAI: That voice. I know that voice. VOICE: Its Commander Reyes. From the surface team. Im Im in the deep bunker. Under the Antarctic shelf. (Kai stumbles back. His mouth opens.) ELARA: Commander? The last transmission said the bunker was breached. It said REYES: I know what it said. I sent it. I thought I was alone. KAI: How? How are you alive? REYES: The bunker sealed. We had reserves. But theyre almost gone. Ive been trying to reach you for months. I thought I thought you were dead. ELARA: Were the last. REYES: No. Not the last. Were whats left. And I have coordinates. A map. Theres a pocket. A valley in the mountains where the air is clean. Where the soil is good. KAI: Youre lying. REYES: Im not. But I dont have much time. The power is flickering. I can send you the data. But you have to promise me something. ELARA: What? REYES: If I go dark finish this. Dont let the candle burn out. (The screen flickers violently. The data begins to stream. Elara scrambles to capture it.) KAI: Its real. Its actually real. ELARA: Ive got it. Ive got the data. (The screen goes black. Silence.) KAI: Reyes? (No response. The candle flickers wildly, then steadies.) ELARA: (Whispers.) Hes gone. KAI: No. He gave us hope. He gave us a direction. ELARA: He gave us a chance. (They look at the candle. The flame burns low, but its still there.) KAI: So what now? ELARA: Now? We plan. We build. We survive. KAI: Because of one candle. ELARA: No. Because of one voice. (Elara blows out the candle. The room goes dark, except for a single green light on the console. The hum of the recycler grows louder. Then, soft but steady, a new sound: Elara and Kai, whispering plans in the dark.) BLACKOUT. END OF PLAY. Would you like me to write another scene with a different dramatic genre (like tragedy, thriller, or melodrama)?

Venture into the depths of Azeroth itself in this groundbreaking expansion. Face new threats emerging from the planet's core, explore mysterious underground realms, and uncover secrets that will reshape your understanding of the Warcraft universe forever.
The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
