drama 2025 movies
Here is a list of the most anticipated drama movies scheduled for release in 2025. This list includes major studio releases, festival circuit hopefuls, and auteur-driven projects that are expected to generate significant buzz. Please note: Release dates for 2025 are subject to change due to production schedules and festival selections (e.g., Sundance, Cannes, Venice). Most of these films do not have exact release dates beyond "2025" or a general season. Highly Anticipated & Major Studio Dramas The Battle of Baktan Cross - Director: Paul Thomas Anderson - Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor - Vibe: A sprawling, contemporary crime drama set during the pandemic. Described as a fast-paced, genre-influenced film with strong political undercurrents. This is arguably the most anticipated film of the year for drama lovers. The Bride! - Director: Maggie Gyllenhaal - Stars: Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening - Vibe: A revisionist sci-fi/drama taking the classic Bride of Frankenstein story and setting it in 1930s Chicago. Expect a deeply emotional and visually stunning character study about identity and creation. The Drama - Director: Kristoffer Borgli (Sick of Myself, Dream Scenario) - Stars: Zendaya, Robert Pattinson - Vibe: A relationship drama with Borgli's signature surreal, satirical edge. Plot details are famously under wraps, but it's described as a highly original story about a couple facing an extraordinary crisis on the eve of their wedding. Michael - Director: Antoine Fuqua - Stars: Jaafar Jackson (as Michael Jackson), Colman Domingo, Nia Long - Vibe: The definitive, authorized biopic of Michael Jackson. While it will cover his career, the drama will center on his humanity, his genius, and the complex, often tragic, story of his life. Expect an epic running time (over 3 hours). Roofman - Director: Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines) - Stars: Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst - Vibe: A true-crime drama with a heartbreaking twist. Tatum plays Jeffrey Manchester, a man who robbed over 60 McDonald's restaurants by living in the attics/roofs, but did so to support his family and avoid violence. Cianfrance specializes in raw, emotional character studies. Auteur & Indie Darlings (Likely for 2025 Festivals) The Lost Bus - Director: Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips, United 93) - Stars: Matthew McConaughey, America Ferrera - Vibe: A powerful disaster drama based on the true story of a school bus driver and a teacher who saved a group of children during the 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, California. Greengrass is a master of real-time, immersive tension. Bugonia - Director: Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things, The Favourite) - Stars: Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons - Vibe: A sci-fi/drama black comedy about two men who kidnap a high-powered CEO, believing she is an alien. This is a remake of a Korean film, but with Lanthimos's signature deadpan, absurdist, and deeply unsettling style. Expect powerhouse performances. The Sentimental Man - Director: Richard Linklater (Boyhood, Before Sunset) - Stars: Paul Rudd - Vibe: A character-driven dramedy about a man who gets a magical second chance at life. Given Linklater's love for real-time contemplation, expect this to be a warm, philosophical, and deceptively simple look at life's small, meaningful moments. (Untitled) A Complete Unknown - Director: James Mangold - Stars: Timothée Chalamet (as Bob Dylan), Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Edward Norton (as Pete Seeger) - Vibe: This biopic of a young Bob Dylan arriving in New York in the early 1960s is a major 2024 release but will likely dominate awards discourse well into early 2025. A period drama about artistic ambition, cultural change, and the electric moment when folk music went electric. Genre-tinged Dramas (Thrillers, Sci-Fi, Horror-Drama) Mickey 17 - Director: Bong Joon-ho (Parasite) - Stars: Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo - Vibe: A sci-fi/drama about an "expendable" employee on a dangerous space colonization mission who is reprinted every time he dies, until one of his clones survives. It's a dark, philosophical, and satirical drama about identity, labor, and capitalism. The Way of the Wind - Director: Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life, A Hidden Life) - Stars: Géza Röhrig (as Jesus), Matthias Schoenaerts, Mark Rylance - Vibe: Malick's long-gestating film about the life of Jesus. This is not a conventional biblical epic but a meditative, philosophical, and intensely spiritual drama told through Malick's signature poetic, impressionistic style. The Running Man (New Adaptation) - Director: Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) - Stars: Glen Powell, Katy O'Brian, Daniel Ezra, Lee Pace - Vibe: A more faithful adaptation of Stephen King's dystopian novel. Beyond the action-thriller framework, this is a sharp, satirical drama about media complicity, surveillance, and the brutality of entertainment. A Few More to Watch For Materialists (dir. Celine Sciamma, stars Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans). A romantic drama from the director of Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Very high-end indie vibes. Eddington (dir. Ari Aster, stars Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Austin Butler). A contemporary western horror-drama about a small-town sheriff. Expect the same level of psychological dread as Hereditary / Midsommar. Presence (dir. Steven Soderbergh). A ghost story told entirely from the ghost's perspective. A psychological family drama with a unique gimmick. Hamnet (dir. Chloe Zhao, stars Paul Mescal, Jessie Buckley). A historical drama about Shakespeare's son and his death, and how it inspired Hamlet. High literary drama from the Nomadland director. Summary of Trends: Biopics: Dylan, Jackson, Shakespeare. The "authorized" biopic is back in a big way. A-List Pairings: DiCaprio/Anderson, Zendaya/Pattinson, Stone/Plemons. Stars are flocking to auteurs. Existential Sci-Fi: Mickey 17, Bugonia, The Bride! All use genre as a Trojan horse for profound drama. Return of "Big" Directors: Malick, Linklater, Lanthimos, Bong Joon-ho all have non-IP, original (or very personal) projects. If you're picking movies for a film club or just to plan your year, The Battle of Baktan Cross, Mickey 17, and The Lost Bus are the safest bets for powerful, traditional "drama" experiences. For something more challenging and unique, keep an eye on Bugonia and The Way of the Wind.

Venture into the depths of Azeroth itself in this groundbreaking expansion. Face new threats emerging from the planet's core, explore mysterious underground realms, and uncover secrets that will reshape your understanding of the Warcraft universe forever.
The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
