Fantasy MMORPG PvE Raids Guilds

Of course! While "free" and "Steam" are a perfect match, the horror genre on Steam has some truly exceptional free-to-play gems. These games often rely on atmosphere, clever design, and pure creativity rather than a budget. Here is a curated list of the best free online horror games on Steam, broken down by category for easy browsing. Top Tier (Must-Play Classics) These are widely regarded as some of the best free horror experiences available anywhere. Cry of Fear (Single-player & Co-op) What it is: A full-length, classic survival horror game built on the original Half-Life engine. It feels like a lost PS2-era horror title with a deeply unsettling atmosphere, great monster design, and a famously bleak story. Why it's great: It's a complete, 8-10 hour experience for free. Has a dedicated co-op campaign separate from the single-player story. No More Room in Hell (Co-op) What it is: A hardcore, slow-paced co-op zombie survival game. It emphasizes realism, resource management, and teamwork. One bite can infect you, leading to tough decisions. Why it's great: Incredibly tense and rewarding with friends. The permadeath and infection mechanics create unforgettable, emergent horror stories. SCP: Secret Laboratory (Multiplayer PvPvE) What it is: Based on the SCP Foundation mythos. Players are randomly assigned as Chaos Insurgents, Foundation Scientists, or terrifying SCP monsters (like SCP-173 or SCP-096). The goal changes based on your role. Why it's great: Chaotic, unpredictable, and social. The horror comes from both the iconic SCPs and the unpredictable nature of other players. Unique & Atmospheric Experiences These games excel at creating a specific mood or using innovative mechanics. The Static Speaks My Name (Single-player) What it is: A very short (15-20 minute) psychological horror experience. You play as a man obsessed with a specific painting. It's deeply unsettling, weird, and has a cult following. Why it's great: A masterclass in building dread through mundane actions. It's a quick, impactful punch of existential horror. Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion (formerly Spooky's House of Jump Scares) (Single-player) What it is: A deceptive game that starts as a parody of cheap jump scares but gradually evolves into something much darker and more atmospheric as you descend its 1000 rooms. Why it's great: It successfully transitions from silly to genuinely terrifying. A long, content-rich game for free. Social & Chaotic Multiplayer Horror that comes from playing with (or against) others. Deceit (Multiplayer Social Deduction) What it is: A free-to-play classic. Six players wake up in a dark facility; two are infected monsters in disguise. The innocent must complete objectives while figuring out who the monsters are before they transform and hunt. Why it's great: High-tension social gameplay. The voice chat betrayal and paranoia are the core of the horror. Murderous Pursuits (Multiplayer - Often on Sale for 100% off) What it is: A stylish "social stealth" assassination game set on a Victorian-era starship. You must hunt your target and eliminate them without being seen by witnesses or other hunters. Why it's great: The horror is more about the stalk-and-prey tension in a crowded, social setting. It's frequently given away for free during events. Mods & Fan Projects (Require Base Game) These are free mods for existing games, offering some of the best horror content available. Half-Life: Alyx - VR Mods (e.g., "The Undertow") Requires: Half-Life: Alyx (a paid VR game). What it is: The Steam Workshop for HLA is filled with incredible, free horror campaigns. "The Undertow" is a standout, featuring a terrifying journey on a ghost ship. Why it's great: Arguably the most terrifying VR horror experiences period, and they're free if you own the base game. Garry's Mod Horror Modes (e.g., "Stop it Slender!") Requires: Garry's Mod (a paid game). What it is: GMod has countless horror-themed game modes. "Stop it Slender" is a classic where a team must collect pages while being hunted by a Slender Man player. Why it's great: Pure, chaotic, community-driven horror fun with friends. Tips for Finding More: Steam Search: Use Steam's search with the "Free to Play" tag and the "Horror" genre. Steam Curators: Follow curators like "Free Horror Games" for regular updates on new releases. Check Reviews: For free games, always skim reviews. The community is great at highlighting which ones are short experiences, asset flips, or hidden gems. Final Recommendation: If you want a complete single-player story, start with Cry of Fear. If you want chaotic fun with friends, try SCP: Secret Laboratory or No More Room in Hell. Enjoy the chills

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
