The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by ZeniMax Online Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. Set in the Elder Scrolls universe, it takes place across the continent of Tamriel, centuries before the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and other mainline games. Key Features of ESO: Setting & Lore: - The game spans multiple regions of Tamriel, including Morrowind, Skyrim, Summerset Isles, Elsweyr, Black Marsh, and more. - Expansions and DLCs introduce new zones, stories, and factions (e.g., Morrowind, Summerset, Greymoor, Blackwood, High Isle, and Necrom). - The Daedric Prince Molag Bal serves as the main antagonist in the base game (The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited). Gameplay: - Classes & Builds: Players choose from classes like Dragonknight, Sorcerer, Nightblade, Templar, Warden, Arcanist, and Necromancer (some locked behind DLC). - Combat: Hybrid action-based and tab-targeting system with light/heavy attacks, abilities, and dodging. - Progression: Skill lines for weapons, armor, guilds (Fighters/Mages), and crafting (blacksmithing, alchemy, etc.). - Multiplayer: Group dungeons, trials (raids), PvP in Cyrodiil (Alliance War) and Battlegrounds. Expansions & Chapters: - Major expansions (called "Chapters") add new zones, mechanics, and storylines: - Morrowind (2017) Introduced Vvardenfell and the Warden class. - Summerset (2018) High Elves' homeland and Psijic Order. - Elsweyr (2019) Dragons and the Necromancer class. - Greymoor (2020) Western Skyrim and vampire themes. - Blackwood (2021) Oblivion gates and companions system. - High Isle (2022) Breton politics and card game Tales of Tribute. - Necrom (2023) Apocrypha and the Arcanist class. Business Model: - Buy-to-Play: Base game includes hundreds of hours of content. - Optional Subscription (ESO Plus): Grants access to all DLC (except latest Chapter), crafting bag, and bonuses. - Crown Store: Microtransactions for cosmetics, mounts, and convenience items. Community & Updates: - Regular patches and events (e.g., Whitestrakes Mayhem for PvP, New Life Festival). - Active roleplaying (RP) and guild communities. Is ESO Worth Playing in 2024? Pros: Rich lore, flexible solo/group play, frequent content updates. Cons: Some grinds (e.g., gear upgrades), monetization criticized by players. If you enjoy Elder Scrolls lore or a story-driven MMO with action combat, ESO is a great choice. Try the base game first to see if it suits you! The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
