Here is a comprehensive guide to a 36-set of acrylic markers, covering what they are, what to look for, popular brands, and the typical colors included. What is an Acrylic Marker 36 Set? A 36-set of acrylic markers is a collection of paint markers that use water-based acrylic paint instead of ink. They are popular for their versatility, opacity, and ability to work on a wide range of surfaces. Key Features: Paint-Based: Unlike standard markers, they contain actual acrylic paint. This means they are opaque, can be layered, and are permanent once dry. Dual-Tip (Often): Many 36-sets include markers with two ends: a fine bullet tip for details and a broad chisel tip for filling in large areas. Water-Based: They are non-toxic, low-odor, and clean up easily with water while wet. Once dry, they are water-resistant and permanent. Vibrant & Opaque: They can cover dark surfaces (like black paper, wood, or stone) with bright, solid colors. Versatile: They work on paper, canvas, wood, glass, stone, ceramics, plastic, metal, fabric, and more (priming may be needed for non-porous surfaces). What to Look for in a 36-Piece Set When choosing a 36-set, consider these factors: Brand Quality: Reputable brands have better paint consistency, color vibrancy, and tip durability. Tip Type: Decide if you want all fine tips, all broad tips, or a dual-tip set (most common and versatile for a 36-set). Color Range: A good 36-set will offer a full spectrum: primary colors, secondary colors, pastels, earth tones, metallics, and black & white (essential for mixing and highlights). Lightfastness: If you're making art for display, check if the brand mentions lightfastness (resistance to fading). Artist-grade sets (like Molotow or Posca) are better for archival work. Activation: Most markers need to be "activated" by shaking them vigorously with the cap on, then pressing the tip down on a piece of scratch paper until the paint flows. Reusability: Look for markers that are refillable (e.g., Posca, Molotow, Montana) if you plan on using them heavily. Top Brands for 36-Set Acrylic Markers Brand Price Range Best For Notes : : : : Posca (Uni-ball) (Mid-Range) Beginners to Professionals The gold standard. Consistent, vibrant, reliable. 36-sets are widely available. Dual-tip (PC-3M, PC-5M) or mixed sets. Molotow (High-End) Professionals, Street Art Premium quality, high lightfastness, refillable. Tips are replaceable. Excellent for detailed work. Montana Acrylic (Mid-Range) Street Art, Mixed Media Very good quality, large color range. Often comes in "skinny" or "jumbo" sizes. Refillable. Arrtx (Budget) Beginners, Hobbyists Excellent value for the price. Good pigmentation and tip performance. A great entry-level choice. Artist's Loft (Michaels) (Budget) Casual Crafting Good for paper, canvas, and general craft. Not as durable or lightfast as premium brands. Crayola (Budget) Kids & Beginners Water-based acrylic. Good for learning but lower opacity. Not ideal for non-porous surfaces. Typical Colors in a 36-Set While exact colors vary by brand, a standard 36-set usually includes: Whites & Neutrals: White, Black, Grey (Light & Dark). Reds: Crimson, Vermillion, Pink, Magenta. Oranges & Yellows: Orange, Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Gold. Greens: Emerald Green, Lime Green, Olive Green, Teal. Blues: Ultramarine, Cerulean, Sky Blue, Navy Blue, Turquoise. Purples: Violet, Lavender, Plum. Browns & Earth Tones: Brown, Tan, Beige, Sepia. Metallics (Sometimes): Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper (often sold separately, but some 36-sets include a few). Best Uses for a 36-Set Rock Painting: The opaque paint covers dark stones perfectly. Canvas & Mixed Media Art: Layering, sketching, and creating bold illustrations. Customizing Sneakers & Clothing: Use with a fabric medium or heat-set for durability. Glass & Ceramic Painting: Great for mugs, vases, and windows (needs baking or sealer for dishwasher safety). Plastic & Metal: Ideal for decorating phone cases, laptops, water bottles, etc. Bullet Journaling & Scrapbooking: The vibrant colors pop on any paper. Pros & Cons Summary Pros Cons : : Opaque & Vibrant - covers dark surfaces. Can Dry Out - Must cap tightly and store horizontally. Water-Based - Non-toxic, low odor, easy cleanup. Requires Activation - Needs shaking & priming before use. Versatile - Works on almost any surface. Not as precise as pens - Paint can bleed on porous surfaces. Permanent - Once dry, it's waterproof. Tip Wear - The nibs can fray over time with heavy use. Layering - You can paint one color over another. Cost - Good quality sets (Posca, Molotow) are more expensive. Final Recommendation For Beginners & Hobbyists: Arrtx or Artist's Loft offer great value. For Best All-Around Quality & Reliability: Posca is the most recommended. Their 36-set is a fantastic investment. For Professionals & Serious Artists: Molotow or Montana Acrylic for their refillability and archival quality. Pro Tip: Always shake the markers vigorously (with the cap on) before each use, and store them horizontally to keep the tips moist and the paint mixed evenly.

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
