90s epic games
Ah, the golden age of Epic Games in the 1990s! This was the era when Epic transformed from a shareware pioneer into a legendary developer and technology powerhouse. Here are the epic (pun intended) games and milestones from that decade: The Early Shareware Days (1991-1994) Epic was founded by Tim Sweeney in 1991 as Potomac Computer Systems, quickly renamed Epic MegaGames. They were masters of the shareware model, distributing games via BBSs and early CD-ROM compilations. ZZT (1991): The game that started it all. A simple, tile-based, ANSI-color adventure game created entirely by Tim Sweeney. Its secret weapon was a built-in scripting language and editor, fostering one of the earliest game-making communities. A cult classic. Jill of the Jungle (1992): A side-scrolling platformer starring a warrior woman. A classic of the early "Epic MegaGames" catalog, known for its colorful VGA graphics and solid gameplay. Ken's Labyrinth (1993): A Wolfenstein 3D-style first-person shooter, notable for being one of the first games to support the Sound Blaster AWE32 for high-quality audio. The Breakthrough: Rise of the First-Person Shooter (1996-1999) This is when Epic went from "cool shareware company" to industry titan, thanks to a revolutionary engine. Epic Pinball (1993): A hugely successful digital pinball game with fantastic tables like "Android" and "Enigma." It funded a lot of Epic's early growth. One Must Fall: 2097 (1994): A legendary PC fighting game featuring giant robots. Praised for its depth, tournament mode, and killer soundtrack. Still has a dedicated fanbase. The Engine That Changed Everything: Unreal Unreal (1998): This was the watershed moment. While id Software defined FPS gameplay with Quake, Epic redefined its visual potential. Unreal was staggeringly beautiful, with colored lighting, vast outdoor areas, water effects, and a sense of scale that was unmatched. Its story (as the prisoner on the Vortex Rikers) and atmospheric world (Na Pali) were also highlights. But the real star was the Unreal Engine. It wasn't just a game; it was a commercial, licensable engine designed from the ground up for flexibility and stunning graphics. This decision would ultimately define Epic's future more than any single game. The Birth of a Legendary Series (1999) Unreal Tournament (1999): If Unreal was the tech demo, UT was the masterpiece. Focusing purely on fast-paced, competitive multiplayer, it delivered an incredibly polished, balanced, and moddable arena shooter. Iconic maps (Facing Worlds, Deck16), perfect weapon feel (Flak Cannon, Shock Rifle combo), and fantastic bot AI made it an instant classic and a esports pillar for years. Legacy of the 90s for Epic: Tech Over Everything: The seeds were planted. Epic's greatest asset became its engineering talent and its engine technology. Community & Modding: From ZZT's editor to Unreal Tournament's mod tools (leading to classics like Tactical Ops), Epic fostered creativity. This DNA would lead to Fortnite Creative and the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) decades later. The Shareware Hustle: They understood distribution and marketing in the pre-digital-download era, a savvy that would later help them navigate the digital storefront wars (see: Epic Games Store). In short: The 90s for Epic was a journey from ZZT to Unreal Tournamentfrom a one-man operation in a bedroom to a studio that built one of the most important game engines in history and a multiplayer title that defined a genre. It was the perfect foundation for everything that followed: Gears of War, the dominance of Unreal Engine across industries, and eventually, the Fortnite phenomenon.

The War Within brings so much fresh content to WoW. The new zones are absolutely stunning and the storyline is engaging. Been playing for 15 years and this expansion reignited my passion for the game.
The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
