The 1990s were a golden era for drama films, producing timeless classics across a wide range of sub-genres. Here is a curated list of some of the most celebrated and memorable 90s drama movies, broken down by category to help you find what you're looking for. The Critically Acclaimed & Award Winners These are the films that dominated the Oscars and are widely considered masterpieces of the decade. The Shawshank Redemption (1994): The ultimate story of hope and friendship set in a brutal prison. Consistently ranked as one of the greatest films of all time. Schindler's List (1993): Steven Spielberg's devastating and essential Holocaust epic. A profound and harrowing masterpiece. Forrest Gump (1994): A sweeping, sentimental journey through 20th-century American history as seen through the eyes of a simple, kind-hearted man. Pulp Fiction (1994): Quentin Tarantino's game-changing, nonlinear crime drama. It's stylish, violent, witty, and redefined independent cinema. Goodfellas (1990): The quintessential mob movie. Martin Scorsese's kinetic, violent, and darkly hilarious look at life in the Mafia. The Silence of the Lambs (1991): A psychological horror-thriller that won the "Big Five" Oscars. Chilling performances from Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. Saving Private Ryan (1998): War drama redefined. The opening D-Day sequence is one of the most intense and realistic battle scenes ever filmed. The Iconic Performances & Character Studies These films feature some of the most memorable acting of the decade. Philadelphia (1993): A landmark film for its portrayal of an HIV-positive lawyer (Tom Hanks) fighting for justice. Boys Don't Cry (1999): A raw, heartbreaking, and powerful true story about Brandon Teena, a transgender man in Nebraska. Hilary Swank's performance is unforgettable. Dead Man Walking (1995): A deeply moral and moving exploration of the death penalty, with powerful performances by Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn. Leaving Las Vegas (1995): A devastatingly bleak and beautiful portrait of a man on a suicide mission to drink himself to death. Nicolas Cage won an Oscar for his performance. The Player (1992): A sharp, cynical, and witty Hollywood satire starring Tim Robbins. A must-see for film fans. The Crime, Thriller & Historical Dramas For stories with high stakes, moral ambiguity, and gripping tension. Heat (1995): The ultimate cat-and-mouse crime thriller. The iconic face-off between Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in a diner is legendary. L.A. Confidential (1997): A masterful neo-noir crime film. A complex, stylish, and brilliantly acted story of corruption and scandal in 1950s Los Angeles. Fargo (1996): The Coen Brothers' darkly comedic and violent crime drama. The Minnesota accents, the woodchipper, and Frances McDormand's Oscar-winning performance make it unforgettable. Se7en (1995): David Fincher's grim, rain-soaked thriller about a serial killer using the seven deadly sins as his motive. The ending is one of cinema's most shocking. Braveheart (1995): A rousing, epic historical drama about Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace. While historically loose, it's emotionally powerful and hugely entertaining. Malcolm X (1992): Spike Lee's epic biographical masterpiece on the life and legacy of the civil rights leader. Denzel Washington delivers a career-defining performance. Glory (1989 - but peak 90s video/vibe): The powerful story of the first all-Black volunteer company in the Civil War, led by Matthew Broderick and featuring Denzel Washington in his first Oscar-winning role. The Coming-of-Age & Family Dramas Good Will Hunting (1997): A beautiful story about a troubled genius, a therapist, and the power of human connection. The "It's not your fault" scene is unforgettable. The Green Mile (1999): Another Stephen King adaptation from Frank Darabont (Shawshank). A supernatural, heart-wrenching, and spiritual drama set on death row. Dead Poets Society (1989 - but often grouped with 90s sentiment): "Carpe diem." An inspirational and tragic story about a charismatic English teacher who inspires his students to live life to its fullest. A Beautiful Mind (2001) - Close but 90s adjacent: The story of John Nash, a brilliant mathematician with schizophrenia. Good for the post-90s sweep. Fried Green Tomatoes (1991): A heartwarming and bittersweet story of friendship, aging, and Southern life, told through flashbacks. For a Touch of Romance & Drama Titanic (1997): The highest-grossing film of its time. An epic disaster-romance that blends historical tragedy with a powerful love story. The English Patient (1996): A sweeping, Oscar-winning epic about love, war, and memory set in the deserts of North Africa and Italy. Jerry Maguire (1996): A romantic comedy-drama with genuine heart. "You had me at hello." Sense and Sensibility (1995): The definitive adaptation of Jane Austen's novel, directed by and starring Ang Lee and Emma Thompson. Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
