It sounds like you're asking about 3D Acrylic Markers (often called 3D Paint Pens or Puffy Paint Pens). These are specialized tools that extrude acrylic paint in a thick, dimensional line that dries with a raised, rubbery texture. Here is a complete breakdown of what they are, how they work, and what you can do with them. What Are They? Unlike standard acrylic markers that lay down a flat, thin layer of paint, 3D acrylic markers contain a thicker, more viscous paint formula. When you squeeze the bottle (or press the tip), the paint comes out as a rounded bead. This bead holds its shape and dries with a significant height, usually between 1-3mm. Key Characteristics: Raised, Dimensional Lines: The defining feature. The final result is tactile and glossy. Flexible when Dry: Once fully cured, the paint becomes slightly rubbery and flexible, not brittle. This is important for use on fabric. Water-Based: They are non-toxic and clean up with soap and water when wet. Requires Shaking: The pigment settles, so you must shake them vigorously (often with the cap on and the ball bearing inside) before each use. Drying Time: They dry to the touch in about 1-2 hours but require 24-48 hours to fully cure and become washable (if on fabric). The "Gimmick" vs. The Reality The "Gimmick" (TikTok/Instagram Version): You've likely seen videos of people drawing intricate, layered 3D sculptures on glass or plastic. They'll draw a base, wait 5 minutes, then draw a second layer on top, creating a "3D print" effect. This is difficult and often fails. The layers must be perfectly timed (tacky, but not dry). It is a specific skill, not a guarantee. The Reality (The "Puffy Paint" Use Case): Their primary, reliable use is for outlining and detailing. They are exceptional for: Adding thick, glossy borders to paintings. Creating tactile lines for people with visual impairments. Writing 3D text on posters, cards, or signs. Adding texture to mixed-media art (dots, swirls, thick lines). Fabric Art (Sneakers, Jackets, T-shirts): This is where they shine. The paint bonds to fabric fibers and remains flexible, unlike regular acrylic. What to Use Them On? Material Works Well? Notes : : : Fabric (Cotton, Polyester) Excellent Must be heat-set (iron from the back) after 48 hours to be machine washable. Canvas Excellent Perfect for adding texture and bold outlines. Paper/Cardboard Good The heavy paint can warp thin paper. Use thick cardstock or watercolor paper. Wood (Unfinished) Good The paint will soak in slightly, reducing the height of the line. Seal first for best results. Glass/Plastic/Metal Fair to Poor The paint has no porous surface to grip. It will peel off easily. Only use for temporary decorations (e.g., window art for a party). Leather/Vinyl Poor The paint will crack when the material bends. Not recommended. Tips for Success Shake, Shake, Shake: This is non-negotiable. Shake for at least 30 seconds. You should hear the mixing ball inside. Prime the Tip: The first squirt might be watery. Squeeze a small dot on a scrap piece of paper until you see a consistent, thick paste coming out. Use a Guide: For straight lines, use a ruler or washi tape. The paint will bleed slightly under the tape, but it creates a clean edge. Don't Press Hard: Let the paint flow out naturally. Pressing the tip onto the surface will flatten the line and create a puddle. Lift, Don't Drag: Hold the bottle vertically. Squeeze a bead of paint, and as it forms, lift the tip away. This creates a rounded, tall line. Drying is Key: For fabric, wait a full 48 hours before washing. Do not use a dryer until you're sure it's fully cured. Best Brands (That Actually Work) Tulip (Dimensional Fabric Paint): The gold standard. Widely available, consistent quality, huge color range, and a proven formula for fabric. Pébéo (Setacolor Opaque 3D): A premium brand. Excellent opacity, smooth flow, and high gloss. Best for canvas and paper. Marvy Uchida (Le Plume 3D): Good for fine detail work. The tip is more precise than Tulip. Amazon Basics/Art Alternatives: These are hit-or-miss. They are cheap, but often have clogging issues and watery consistency. Good for practice. Summary: Should You Buy Them? Buy them if: You want to add a bold, raised outline to fabric art, canvas paintings, or poster boards. You are patient and willing to wait 24-48 hours for a full cure. You understand they are outlining tools, not "3D printers." Skip them if: You expect to draw complex 3D sculptures on glass instantly. You need a fine, hairline detail (use a fine-tip fabric marker instead). You want a smooth, flat finish (use standard acrylic markers).

Great raids, some bugs

The new raid content is fantastic with challenging mechanics. However, there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out. Overall a solid expansion that keeps me coming back for more.
